I think I have found my next barrel..a .375GNR#2

A 375GNR#2 is a 45-70 case necked down to a .375 cal. 300gr bullets at 2100fps with a 15" tube.Ahhhh I can see it now a 16.5" 375GNR#2 with a 270gr bullet at over 2100fps Hmmmm.Look's like I need some overtime to pay for this. :) I'll wait and see how Big Gun's .375H&H is first but, I think a 45-70 necked down to .375 would be nice.

PJ, check out the 376 Steyr. Out of my 13" barrel I'm getting 2450 fps with a 260 Balistic Tip. You can also buy factory ammo.

A 260grainer at 2450   Sounds painful to me

PJ - can I ask why this over the 375 H&H, 376 Steyr, 375 JDJ, or the 378 GNR.  I kicked all of these ideas around but ultimately arrived at the 375 H&H, and honestly I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.  By the way - virgin valley also does a 375 / 45-70 wildcat - I imagine it is about the same thing.  Did you see some of the photos of engraving available (included in price) on the barrels?  There is an article in the Tech section of handgunhunt.com on the 376 Steyr in an Encore - you might have already seen it as it has been there for a while.

There are several things I like about the .375GNR#2

1.) It has a rim
2.) Brass is cheap
3.) It looks cool :) short fat case

Nothing against the GNR folks, they are great and make great products, but I'd stick with a 375 JDJ because it is made on the thinner and stronger 444 marlin case that allows you to load significantly higher pressures than the wider and weaker 45-70 case.  Besides, dies and data are plentiful.

Ya but, the 375JDJ can't push a 300gr bullet to over 2100fps from a 14" tube. Not saying the 375JDJ has no power but ,in an Encore a 375GNR#2 in a 16.5" tube should be a great caliber for the big stuff.
