Barrel Fit
« on: June 14, 2008, 09:25:10 AM »
Am fitting a .308 barrel to my NW series frame. A .003 feeler gage will not pull out, and a .002 is snug. I know from reading the FAC's that this is about .001 too loose.
I have some .001 stainless shim, but am concerned that gluing it in and fitting it will tear it, since it is VERY fragile.
What is best to use to add .001 Shim?

Thanks

First thing to do is to see if the gap is even from the top to the bottom, it is more at the top than at the bottom then it may be too tight and not too loose.  Larry

If the latch engagement is good, shoot it and see how it does, it may shoot fine for ya. How's the headspace, is a sized case flush with the chamber mouth? If not, that's where to start, then a thicker shim can be used.

Headspace looks very good and the .003 gap is the same top to bottom.

Will give it a try, if I can ever get to the range, and see what happens.

thanks
