Enfield No.2 Mk1**

I just purchased a Enfield No.2 Mk1**. I  feel like I got a good deal on it, $125. Is that a good price? The bore is bright and shiny and the finish is OK. If I could find where my wife put the camera, I would post a photo.

Yes that is a good price.  I payed $150 for mine in the early 90's.

If you find another one, let me know!  I've seen pretty poor looking #4's with rough barrels going for $175 at a gun show recently, so you got a good deal!  I love cruising gun shops to see what came in recently.  I picked up a nice #4 MK1 sporter for $79.95, a Mosin Nagant 91/59 for $89.95, a Finnish M39 Nosin Nagant for $130, a Finnish M27 Mosin Nagant for $89.95, all because I try to hit my favorite stores at least once a week.

RMD - that's a pretty good deal.  You should be happy with that and you should have a ball shootin' it too.

There is nothing wrong with the old British loading for the 38/200 and those things are a hoot to shoot.

If you reload, please read the post by coyotejoe in the General Handgun Forum about having a hollow-based wadcutter stuck in the bore of his Webley and please use the proper components when reloading.  Mikey.

Actually that was also an Enfield, not a Webley, although they are darn near the same. I think the problem there is pretty much nailed down to the use of .3 grain too much Red Dot powder, but the oversize forcing cone of the Enfield revolver was also a factor. Don't be afraid of hollow base bullets, but do keep loads very light and use Bullseye rather than Red Dot.

Fellows I believe he was referencing the rifle. 

  I have a 1955 LongBranch #4 mk2 that has been awesome from the day I got it.  I would recommend reloading for the gun to get the very best out of her, trust me you will like the results.  These rifles get an unnecessary amount of bad press.  If you ask me and many more who use them, they are better than most of their users.  Enjoy.

I've got a 1952 that I haven't had time to work with.  What handloads do you recommend?

surfer - I have two loads I prefer for the 303 Brit.  43.7 gns of Norma 203 powder under a 180 gn slug for an approx 2540'/sec; and 41.7 gns of VihtaVuori Oy N140 powder gets you the same velocity.  I like the VV powder - it's available, Norma isn't.  Mikey.

All the reloads I've made for this gun worked well, but my pet load worked out to be:
1. AA2520 44 grns
2. Speer Round Nose 180 grns
3. Sierra Game King 180 grns
4. Dacron 1-2 grns under the Speers (their shorter and seat out farther)
5. Remington brass
6. CCI "Benchmark" Primers
**  Both rounds were seated to MOA length of 3.075
This load came from the LEE Manual Second addition and does not exceed max pressure.  It clocks at 2560 fps. with a max spread of 20 fps..  My rifle is scoped and it shots less than an inch with the Speer's and 1 inch to 1.25 with the Sierra's at 100 yards.  My two longest shots ever were with this rifle the second being my best so far.  First was a big doe in VA at 425 yards, the cool part was I used the apperature sight set at 400!  The second was a turkey in LA, 278 measured yards, bang... and its head flew off! ;D  (Yes I was aiming for the head, but I had mounted a scope to her by then.) 
  This isn't to brag but I have great faith in my gun, a friend of mine bought one after seeing the "Turkey Shoot" and has been equally pleased with his.  I know war time production can be spotty at best, but when you get a "good .303" you have a dang good rifle.  I wouldnt trade mine for a mint, well that is when I can beat it out of my oldest son. ;) :D

Well then just what is a #2 MK-1** rifle? Would that be the Indian .308?

This thread is about the Enfield No.2Mk1** Revolver, or at least that is how it started out before somebody moved it into the rifle section...

That makes sense, we all thought that it was a No. 4 Mk!*  I'll read more closely next time.  By the way, don't try to use the loads in the revolver ;)

Would 44 gr of AA2520 be considered a compreseed load in the 38S&W/380?

Sorry for the misunderstanding Gentlemen.  My reply was not meant to confuse, just help.  As I looked back something has gone goofy with (at least my part) of the thread. ???  What is a "Greenfield No.2 Mk1" , I know the post started out as "Enfield"?  Is this a problem that I should be concerned about?
