Jammed up 39-2
« on: June 12, 2008, 03:24:47 PM »
Help!  Went to the range after work tonight.  My boss's wife puchased a S&W 39-2 from a guy in her office who needed money....she got it for the unbelievable price of $75 and it seems to be in decent shape.  It shot quite well too at 25 yards, keeping most shots in the 5 ring on a standard 25 meter military silhouette target.

On her last 5 round mag it jammed with the slide locked to the rear and the empty case in the ejector.  We knocked out the case and attempted to release the slide but the slide release wasn't even engaged.  We tapped the back of the slide lightly and it went forward and closed, but then we couldn't open it, no matter how hard we pulled.  It's totally locked up!!

Anyone ever experience this with this weapon, and if so, what's the fix?

These pistols have an aluminum frame, perhaps there's some galling or burrs between the slide and frame? Illinois State Police used these guns for some time and abused them badly, with the ammo they shot(+P+) but, all in all, they appeared to be a decent weapon?
Sounds like she got a good buy?
By the way, when this gun first came out, it was offered with two differnt types of mags. Civilian and military. You could also get a dust cover for the ejection port, that was added for the military tests? Fit over the slide stop.
