S&W Model 39-2 magazine
« on: June 10, 2008, 02:15:57 PM »
A friend of mine just bought a nickel Model 39-2 in mint condition.  It only came with one magazine and he wants to purchase a couple more. Obviously, the original 8-round single stack is hard to find (no longer made).  I contacted S&W and they informed me that a current 9-round magazine (#20075) would work and only protrude slightly from the well.  Have any of you went this route, and if so, any problems?

Never really thought about it, but I just now shoved a 9-round mag into my 39-2 and it seems like it would work just fine. It locks up tight and only protrudes a (very) slight amount. The top of the mags look identical. I might try it on my next trip to the range.

Thanks; let me know how it works out.  I'm told (by other forums) that they work fine, with some guys actually preferring them.

When this gun first came out, it was offered with two differnt types of mags. Civilian and military. You could also get a dust cover for the ejection port, that was added for the military trials(very elusive, now)? Fit over the slide stop.
