which to cartridge to build?
« on: June 09, 2008, 12:43:59 PM »
I want to build a 22 cal gun for Varmints and some paper punching. I want either a 22BR or a 22PPC. any experience with either? I plan to shoot light bullets, maybe 50 gr Vmax's

I have a couple of Ruger factory guns in 22ppc. Both are very accurate, not sure if any better than 22br and I know br brass is cheeper.

I have 7 different .22 cal. rounds at present. I do have a .22 PPC, but no BR. As far choice between the 2 it would boil down to if you wanted the extra veloicity of the BR case as there is not an accuracy advantage to to eather round. In fact the accuracy advantage of eather case over any other .22 cal round means nothing unless you are working on groups less than 1/2 moa to start with. The gun and barrel means far more than round choice, as far as accuracy.

I own both.  Don't know if you can buy 22ppc brass might have to form some 220 Laupa cases for the 22ppc and you can form 22Br brass from 6br Laupa cases either way you get some good cases.  Both my rifles have 1/14 twist barrel and I use 52gr bullets you get more velocity with the 22Br case and  Rem made some tight neck 40x in 6/22Br none of them won much in Br matches just never had the accuracy level of the 6ppc or 22ppc.  Since I own both I would say the 22ppc is easier to keep tune up.
