Poll - Maximum Distance You Have Shot Your H&R
« on: June 09, 2008, 11:31:47 AM »
... Curious, what is the maximum distance you have shot your H&R rifle with accuaracy?  Please identify:
 - the caliber that you shot.  And whether it was:
- Smokeless
- Black Powder
- Jacketed Bullets or Cast Bullets
- Iron Sights
- Scope

And if you were having a 'lucky' day - what was the group or animal that you hit
Regards

I shot a couple Groundhogs with my Handi 204 at about 350 yards or so and killed one at about 400 with the Handi 243. Dale

Just got back from the P-dog shoot , most shots were in the 350 to 450 range and a few were out as far as 800 ( more luck that skill - Me Thinks  :o )

I do have a range that goes out to 500 yards that I try to shoot at least once a month .

i have taken the .22-250 and 7.62x39 out to 500 yards, .22-250 would hit milk jugs with regularity, 7.62x39 would run 3.5 inch groups with my handloads at that range. have had the 38-55 and 45-70 to 800 with light cast loads at 1100 fps on a 55 gallon drum. cant hit that one every time but 7 out of 10 on a good day.

350 yards at a 16" pig silohette.  I used my sons .270 with a max load of smokeless under a 140grn Hornady SST.  As long as I didn't giggle to much I was shooting in a three inch circle.

I shot my 45/70 Buff Classic at 200 to see what it would do. 3 inch group with open target sights is good enough for me.

I shot at a long range as I rarely have an oppertunity to. I sure did not hit my target but I tried.

My home range is just over 430 yards and truthfully I should practice at that distance more before going further

307 lazered yards with a .280, quartering-away black bear. He made it about 5 yards before dropping.

At the P-Dog shoot, I was able to accurately shoot/kill with my Hand loaded
204 (40gr V-Max) at 350-400 yards.

The longest confirmed kill was 415 yards. (We stepped it off)

My rifles are sighted in at l00, 200, and 300 yards respectively for each rifle, depending on their long range capabilities.  They all ring the 300 yard gong.  For example, the .357 is sighted in for 60 yards, But I still know where it is shooting to hit the 300.  They all shoot 300 yards, and a few of them are sighted in for that distance, and can shoot longer.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

At GBO Prairie Dog Shoot Number One I shot and killed a couple of PDs using my old iron sighted 30-30 with full stock at what we guesstimated to be at least 150 yards perhaps more. I didn't hit it the first shot but did hit more than one out there at a similar distance with it and that was shooting off hand not over a bench rest. Yeah there were several witnesses to the feat.

I took a shot at a deer outside of Winthrop, Washington a few years back using my .303 Brit Handi at about 200 yards and as far as I know that bullet is still going - should be somewhere passing Mars about now - that deer just stood perfectly still, never so much as twitched, and glared at me for at least five minutes as i waited for it to drop - then I killed it with the next shot - no one glares at my Handi with impunity and lives  ::)

The farthest I have shot my survivor .308 so far is 400 yards on a 15" steel gong. Banged it every time that was with Rem Cor-Lok 150's. I would say that is minute of deer in my book.
