hunting with a Beretta 92fs (m9)
« on: June 07, 2008, 02:59:44 PM »
I am in the process of getting a 92 fs.
I am wondering if anyone have used this pistol for small game / varmint hunting?
I am thinking maybe using it for ground hogs out to 50 yards with 115 gr JHP this summer.

I've had my old 92F for a few years and have used it on rabbits with great success.  I've used both hollow points of 110gr. and 90 grain hard cast with equal success out to 30 yds.  I've killed ground hogs with a 22 rifle at 50+ yds so I'm sure a 9mm well placed will do the job.

I think you are streaching it at 50 yards. Sure it will kill them, but accuracy is the issue at 50 yards.

Oh for goodness sake!  Is this going to get into the armor plated jackalope arena now???  I'm tellin' ya, two square hits with a fmj 9mm and the little energizer kept on goin' (not too far though) until it finally expired.

Guys, I could split a gut reading this.  Not too many bunches of years ago I used to hunt jacks with either a 30 Luger or a 9mm Luger.  The old Lugers were accurate and 50 yd shots were pretty easy if you had a good sight picture.  The trick was to see how high they would jump when they got hit and I don't recall any of them actually trying to make a get-a-way until 'la morte' set in.

You could always try a soft nosed slug for a more rapid demise.................. Mikey.

I read an article a while back. A guy went hog hunting with a 9mm....He killed one too...If a 9mm will kill a person it will definitely kill something smaller.....By the way we're talking about rabbits a few #8 pellet hits from a shotgun will do one in with no problem...

several years ago I shot a groundhog  at about 50 yards with my Marlin camp carbine with 115 JHP at about 1200 FPS. The ground hog was spun around by the hit and it walked to it's hole like nothing happened I am sure it died latter.

4 legged animals are a lot tougher to kill then two legged animals.
