got me a jeep yesterday

isnt the rubicon i wanted but it was a hell of alot cheaper. Found a local guy that had a yellow 2000 thats about like new. Its a 4 cyl (gutless) stick  with a 2 inch lift and bfg tires. Real nice looking and running rig. Its got 69000 miles and looks like half that many. New top and door uppers too. Got it for 6 grand and a guy cant even buy a decent new 4 wheeler for that these days. Its a pig on the road but plenty peppy enough around town and in the woods.

 What size tires?

The little 2.5's can run a lot better on the open road when a person doesn't stick 120lbs of tires and wheels on each corner. A set of mud and snow 215's or even 235's will get you anywhere a set of 31-10.50's will only a lot quicker. The little 2.5 has vuritually no torque so any additional rolling mass really kills the things.

Something that you want to get in the habit of doing on a 2.5 jeep is to change the trans oil religiously.  The syncros on a ax-5 are a bit on the weak side and the oil the owners manual recommends isn't friendly to yellow metal parts. Use the GM syncromesh or equivalent you'll be amazed at how much difference this stuff makes.

I got about the same rig it came with 32x11.50's on it...Way too much tire for this thing...I put a set of 30x9.50's on it and it was alot easier on that small motor....Those tires are about wore out so i'm probably going with some 31's next...
