What music
« on: June 05, 2008, 08:08:56 AM »
I didn't expect to use this forum but now that it's up I'm curious. What kind of music do you listen to?

I listen to anything from Johnny cash to Cannibal Corpse. Pretty wide feild I know but being a musician (at times professional bass player, stage, studio work) I listen to the ability of the musicians and not neccessarily to the music itself. My favorite music is  metal, again mostly for the musicianship, the speed of the guitar players and drummers amaze me sometimes. But I like a lot of classical guitar and some country (big Chet Atkins fan).

So what do you like? I bet country tops the list here, but I've been known to be wrong before.

I'm a big fan of the HAIR bands of the 70s and 80s , that's the reason that I set up a myspace account , that way I can play music in the background while surfing the net , my tastes run from Accept to Zebra and a little Classical thrown in for something diffrent .

I avoid all Country music like the plag ( thats all mom played when I was a kid - yuck )

I don't listen to music and really have not for a lot of years. What is played today is NOT music to my ears and I'd about as soon hear horns honking as what passes for music these days. Back when I did listen to music REAL Country and Western music was my favorite but what was called Pop or at times Pop and Rock in the days of my youth was also enjoyed.

My favorite artists and those who I'd listen to these days IF I still listened to music would be the likes of Johnny Horton, Marty Robbins and John Denver. That is music I can listen to and enjoy but these days I do not do so any longer.

I listen to all kinds of music. I am a rocker and always will be. I do like a bunch of country also. I also like a little jazz thrown in every now and again. As far as the rock goes I like most things from the 70'S until now. I am still enjoying bands like Mudvane, Disturbed, Metalica, anything real heavy. I grew up on Pink Floyd and still one of my favorites along with all the hair bands of the 80'S. I forgot to mention Boston they are great. Dale

I pretty much listen to Country, Southern and Classic Rock and leave it at that. The other new stuff out that is not these is basically taking someone with no talent and making them sing with a Computer and making them sound 'better' when they really sound stupid. That is part of the problem with America today and that is trying to act like what they listen to.

I have to agree that the music I listen today is not the music I listened to 20 years ago. I listen to a lot of bands my 12 year old daughter listens to and I have evolved to a point. I don't like all her music but I have still evolved over the years. Dale

I enjoy a lot of music...I like a little bit from every genre. The only genres I really dislike are rap, death metal, and hip-hop. I enjoy classical, jazz, some pop (even some of that I can't stand), contemporary/alternative, acoustic, country (the good country, not the hee-haw country), and probably a lot more I didn't list.

Graybeard, I gotta hook you up with some jazz...I bet you'd like the older style jazz music going as far back as the late 40's and early 50's. Some of the modern jazz (better known as smooth jazz) tends to be a little cheesy but I'm sure you'd enjoy some of the older jazz.

Over the years, I have found that I really do like at least one recording from everyone who ever recorded anything that made it to the airwaves. This was brought home to me back in the '70's when I went through a stage where "I didn't like anything  contemprary". Then, one day I was bopping along in my UPS truck, hit a bump which changed the station on my portable radio and this lively little number was playing and I really liked it. Turned out to be "A Little Thing Called Love" by Queen. I couldn't believe it! I did not become a Queen Fan, but I really listened to stuff different after that. Grateful Dead had "Trucking", Cream has "Sunshine of your Love" (which I now put a lick or two of into my church worship music) and on and on. Basically, I'm considered a Country fan by my peers, but I really like something from everyone. It'd been a great life, one note at a time, keeping an open mind.

I will mainly listen to Country but also like the bluegrass and some rock.
I dont really even have a good stereo in the house till I picked up a Bose system 3 a couple months ago (Read three piece PC Speaker system)

The Ranger truck is a little different...She has a common 200watt pioneer radio and I installed good coaxles up front & triaxles in the rear. Sounds pretty good and no, it doesnt go THUMP (pretty close though ;D)
The main thing is that some power will get you clarity at the lower volume as it doesnt have to be up very loud to hear what is being played.
I could probably call Coyotes in with this rig if I would park it down in a draw and leave the doors & sliding glass window open.
Is this forum for stereo discussion also ???

Sure, I wouldn't see why we couldn't discuss things on car stereos and whatnot here. That is a really good idea ya know...to use your vehicle as a predator/turkey caller. I know in some states (including mine) it's illegal to call for turkeys with an electronic call but it's not for 'yotes and foxes.

I kind of picked that up from one of the older gentlemen that I hunt with. His stories always go something like " So I picks up my gun and I shoots it". Then there's usually some expletive that I'll just leave out.

Back when I listened to music some little bit of Hank, Jr. music was OK but not nearly as much as that of his dad. Johnny Cash yeah much of that is OK. But as I said Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton and John Denver are more my type music IF I were gonna listen to music which for the most part I no longer do.

I listen mostly to heavy metal but I will listen to just about all of it. My second choice after metal would have to be some good ole Hank jr. Johnny Cash Willie Nelson and  Waylon Jennings. Hard to beat them four, ;D

Occasionally, while flipping thru channels, I'll listen to some 80's metal (DefLeppard, AC/DC, Quiet Riot kind of stuff) but mostly the only music I listen to is on the commercials on AM radio.

I'll jump between some of the conservative AM shows and sports talk radio constantly. Of course, that's usually limited to driving time only.  If I'm working around the house, garage, or yard, I typically won't have the radio on at all. Only exception would be a BAdger or Packer game......but most of those are spent in front of the TV

You might also enjoy sacred/secular choral music. I've always been a big fan of the composers that write sacred/secular selections for choirs; it's amazing how much emotion is conveyed in these pieces. I can send you a sample of what I'm talking about if you're not sure or would like to hear more  :)
