Savage action sizes
« on: June 01, 2008, 06:15:12 PM »
I have read somewhere (I don't recall where) that Savage long actions come in two thread diameters.  A regular large and a "magnum" (my words, not theirs) diameter.

What I want to do is buy a complete long action Savage rifle with the magnum diameter barrel thread to make a switch barrel rifle.  I don't recall if the magnum diameter was available on just the stainless action or chrome moly action, or both.

Thanks for your help guys.  You have a great website here.

The Savage regular/small shank is 1.060"x20 tpi.  The large/magnum shank is 1.120"x20 tpi.

Check out Jim Briggs at Notherlander Shooters Supply, e-mail is  briggs.j-b@comcast.net , phone  (763) 420-7163, or fax (763) 420-7610.  You can get the action you want, as well as the barrel you'll need.

Thank you for the information guys.  It will be cheaper than buying a rifle and butchering it for the action.
