warne rings for sako - how do they measure the height?
« on: May 26, 2008, 11:05:15 PM »
Sako's Optilock rings are measured from their base up to the top of the bottom half of the ring. I am keen on getting some Warne Rings but they do not say how they measure their height! The Sako Optilock I am keen on is the Medium which is measured as being 35.5 mm or 1.39 inches high (to the top of the bottom half of the ring), so which Warne equivalent would I need? The .375" or the .575"???

Most American ring makers measure from the base of the ring to the bottom of the radius that the scope sits in. The easiest way to figure ring height is divide the outside of the bell diameter in two and subtract half the diameter of the tube.

Assuming a 2" bell and a 1" tube: (2" x .5) - (1" x .5) = .5" and above.
