I am thinking about buying a Ruger P90 45 acp. Dose anyone have any comments about this pistol.

Yup, it's a Ruger....buy it. My buddy has one and loves it. I've always heard good about them elsewhere.

I had one shortly after they first came out and like a fool sold it. I loved the big brute. They are great guns.

I shoot my new P90 (new to me) and I am very pleased. I bought spme hogue grips on the way home at the Cheaper Than Dirt retail store in Fort Worth for $14.95. They feel great. Picked up some more ammo there too. I'm off work again tommorrow so there is a good chance I'll get to do more shooting. It is quite addicting.
 It took a while but I started shooting some paper plate size "groups" at 20-25 yards. I hope this gun will do better than that. I shoot other handguns (including my 44 mag ) in smaller groups.
 Any words of incouragement or advice?

Just 2 cents worth here. I bought one when they first came out. Still have it and it digests everything from target rounds to high power Cor-Bon. Wouldnt trade it for anything.

Hey Tex,
I don't own a P-90, but if I did I would expect the same kind of performance I have gotten from other Ruger products. Reasonable accuracy,  and absolute reliability in a well engineered package. Although large for the caliber, and not especially pleasing to the eye, not to mention the terrible trigger pull, the centerfire autos are a hell of a deal in a no frills pistol!! I have a friend who worked for an agency that issued P-90s. He said they didn't have any problem with them at the range.
Which is what you'd expect from Ruger.

Get it on a sandbag, i know it will shoot 5 shot groups within 4" or less at 25yds. I would move in a little closer too, I think most of us probably practice at 10-15 yards.

I've had mine since about 91 or 92. As others have said, very durable, handles all ammo and I personally like the bulk and heft. No mistaking it for ol' slabsides. As far as shooting distance I don't shoot it at any less than 25yds. 2 to 3 inch groups with the right loads. I also agree about the poor trigger. I'm no smith but I found that all mine needed was a gentle pass with a fine fingernail file to remove a couple of little burrs from the trigger/sear point of contact. It still has a lot of travel but it is very light and very smooth. Turned it into literal joy to shoot.

Just a piece of advice. Do not start shooting your new auto at 25 yards.
Start at 6 feet which is where most gun battles occur. Then move your pie plates out slowly and you'll learn to shoot that firearm the way you should.
Accuracy wise the p-90 is in the same league as any mil spec 45. It is
not designed to be a target shooter. It is designed to protect and have fun with. it's a great gun and if you ever have to pull it in self defense, it'll
do it's part if you've done your homework. IMHO

Can't speak to the 45 ACP version but I had a P95DC in 9 mm.  Like a damn fool I sold it cause it was a "horse" for a CCW.  Thinking of looking at the 45 version sometime in the not to distant future just to get one back in the gun box.  I put a lot of rounds through my 9 mm and never had one malfunction.  Not the most accurate weapon in the world for Bullseye shooting but they never laid a claim to being a comp gun to my knowledge.  Maybe if I post real nice replies in the forum Mikey will cough one up for me from his "Vault of Horrors" and ship it my way!!!

I traded away my first p-90 but it was a trade I don't think most would have passed up. I now have my second one a stainless version, and am extremely pleased. IMHO it is the best gun for the money you can buy bar none. And this one is unbelievably accurate. The first 16 rounds through it 15 shots hit a tin can at 20-25 yards. This one will not be traded away.
