bushnell trophy
« on: May 22, 2008, 05:18:06 PM »
I noticed on midway today that they had the bushnell trophy 2-6x32 and listed it as having 18" constant eye relief.  Did they make some changes, or was this a mistake by midway?  I looked on the bushnell website, which said in the blurb it was constant 18", and they still listed the eye relief in the details of the trophy as 9-26"  I know that the 3200 had a constant eye relief.

I was thinking of putting on of these on, if it did have the constant eye relief, to my .454.  Most likely with a three ring setup.

Any other suggestions?  I am pretty much sure on the adjustable power scope, and for $150, this seems like a hard deal to beat.  From what I have heard, I shouldn't be able to bust it, even with my thumper loads.

Hi , I have that scope on a SRH , truth be told it stays on 2 power. So I won't be much help in that regard , but I do like it , after a few cylinders of full power loads the ring for the magnification begins to creep up towards 3x , not really a problem tho.
Mine is stainless , and to be honest I think you are very close to what I paid a good many yrs ago , perhaps I paid $130.00 or so , can't recall where I bought it , it was online I feel sure about that.

So what is the real eye relief?

In bushnells blurb it says 18" constant, and then in the description it say 9-26"
At midway, it says 18" constant in the  blurb, and 18-26" in technical specs
At cabelas, it just says 9-26"

What the hell number is the real one?

I have an older 15yrs older Trophy and it has 9"-26" it really sucks at 6 power. I had heard that the new ones were constant 18"

The Bushnell elite has 20" constant eye relief I have one of each. The trophy has held up to the recoil of the 445 Supermag since I got it.

I guess I will just have to call them and make sure...  I would find that change in relief a big pain in the butt.  But 18" is about good for me for a pistol scope.

I was just taking a look at these rings, never seen this style before, any you guys try them?

I am either thinking those, or these:

But it seems that the first ones would offer a more sure hold over the adjustables.

I had this very scope on a 460 S&W Magnum.  The recoil broke it.  When returned to Bushnell for warranty service, they said it had been "abused" and wouldn't fix it.  I'll never buy another.

That said, for the short time it worked, the eye relief and optics were satisfactory.

So what did you put on it?  And does what you have now hold up?

Corby ,  Not to take anything away from Grums , but I had one on a 460 Encore barrel , I left it on all summer while I was trying to work up loads for it , I figure it had about 500 rounds through it along with several hundred 454 rounds........never faltered.  As far as the eye relief , it was fine for me, but as someone else said I didn't move it...had it set on 4X, it stayed there..mine didn't shift either.
Had a three ring redfield setup on it at time.   Personally , for the money, I think its a good scope......Good Luck

So what did you put on it?  And does what you have now hold up?

I ended up with a Leupold 2.5-8X scope on it which has held up fine on my 460 S&W.  I have another one on a 500 S&W which has given excellent service as well.  Since I've never broken a Leupold scope in some very demanding applications, I have no personal experience with their warranty service but what I've heard of the experiences of others is all good.

That said, I still have some low end scopes like Tascos (Tasco is now owned by Bushnell).  When Bushnell and Tasco scopes work, they're fine and sometimes they work for a long time.  I still use the ones I have but I won't buy any more.  My major problem with Bushnell is their apparent lack of concern for their customers.  If their scope has a lifetime warranty and it breaks, they should fix it.  At least in my case they didn't.

Around the time I was having problems with my 460 S&W scope, I was also working with a 500 S&W.  I don't remember the exact sequence of events or which handguns they were on, but I had a 1-4X (if I remember correctly) Thompson/Center handgun scope which broke.  Thompson/Center promptly replaced the scope with no hassle.  Then the scope they sent as a replacement also broke.  They replaced that as well.  You can't ask more than that.  I still have a couple of Thompson/Center scopes which have held up well in somewhat less demanding applications.

From what I have been reading, it seems like it is all in the rings for scoping a handgun.  This is the first time I've ever tried scoping a revolver... and who knows, maybe I'll hate it anyways.  ;D  I mean, I think I still have five or six rifles that a scope has never touched....

I'm thinking I may just go ahead and get the trophy, and throw two sets of warne rings on it just to make sure.

I as well have a Bushnell trophy on my S&W 460 Mag, never a problem with well over 1000 rounds fired. The same Bushnell trophy has been on my 500 Mag. I have 2 Bushnell trophy scopes and a Bushnell 3200 Elite. All great scopes. I am also a Leupold fan as well as a red-dot user. Ultra-dot Match-dot  and Burris Fast Fire.

Yeah, I have also thought about the red dot, but my eyes react kind of strange to them, after a while, the dots get a little fuzzy to me.  Which is strange, because that never happens with a normal scope, and my vision has always been perfect.  I have one that I use on my parker crossbow, but have to deal with that at times.

Take a look at the Ultra-dot Match dot, the size of the dot can be adjusted from 2 MOA to 8 MOA. The 2 MOA setting works great on load development. The 2 MOA covers only 2 inch's at 100 yards. A lot less at 25 to 50 yards.

I used the Ruger rings with the 2x6 trophy on a SRH 454 without any issues.  I love it.  3x for 50 yards 6x for 100 yards works great for me.

I bought one of the Bushnell 3200 Firefly recticle scopes from Natchez a few months ago for 149.00 and when first looking through it I was convinced that the recticle was too big but after using it at the range I've grown to like it.  I think they are still on sale but I've heard alot of people that have tried them don't like em. Was going to get another but came across a used Trophy for 79.00, I haven't tried it yet but like it so far.

ive got one on a 50 cal muzzle loading pistol and nothing stresses a scope like a black powder gun and its held up fine. the optics are amazing for the price of the scope too. Ive had 300 dollar handguns scopes that were no bettter.
