another ? for quick

I have a few Handis after some tinkering they all shoot great thanks to this forum.
My question is on the one that doesnt, its a 243 needs shimmed at pivot to shoot
good. Thought i had it beat with JB weld but after a few shots it strings vertical again.
Is Accura Glass any less prone to pounding out or is it worse? Im going to mix some
up and add about an hours worth of steel filings to it.Any thoughts?

i think fred m did somthing with devcon steel putty tim can put you onto the thred.

All of Fred's stuff is on his website, links are in the FAQs.

I don't use just epoxy like he does and have never had one shoot lose, and I've shimmed some hot chambered barrels, 300WSM, 270 and 500S&W. But I JB Weld an appropriate size steel shim into the pivot, then file it to fit. All this info is in the barrel fitting info in the FAQs. ;)

thanks for the replies. I did the steel shims on a 223 worked like a charm.
I guess I was just looking for an easy way out (no filing which I seem to always
get carried away with and end up doing it twice) With the Accra glass or epoxy you just
slam it shut and its perfect.

My Devcon Steel does a remarkable good job, but does not last forever. Also
a refit is easy to do. The trouble is the underlying underlug which keeps on spreading after a lot of shooting even with reduced loads.

The shim method is very good too, but seems more involved I tried it but prefer the Devcon Steel method.

What really need sto be done is mill off the seat to the spring hole (1/2") and fit a new piece of hard steel with a perfect seat and weld it to the existing underlug. Besides a 1/16"  larger hinge pin could be added 7/16 instead of
3/8".

That is what I will do when mine gets loose again.

I think if it happens again I will add the piece of hard steel
I may even extend it out and go with a hole like a contender
if I have room to get away with it.
