NTM 22 Hornet
« on: May 08, 2008, 07:20:14 AM »
If you guys were paying attention we have a four way trade going on barrels.I had wanted a 22 Hornet for awhile and so I jumped in.
Fast forward to last weekend,I was at a local gun show and a guy is walking around with a NEF 22 Hornet on his shoulder. He was there all three days and it never sold.I gave him my business card and told him to call me if it didn't sell. Long story short I paid $175.00 for the rifle., serial number NT.Now I have a rifle and soon a barrel fo 22 Hornet. ::)   Doug

Hey Doug!  As a matter of fact I do know!  My cheeks should work fine on my non monte stock.  Do you reload?  If not you will.  The best "bang for the buck" -no pun intended is reloading for the Hornet.

Doug, if you get tired of the extra hornet, I'll give it a real good home.  Plenty of family to hang out with :D :D.  I missed out on a hornet at the last gun show here, thought I would go back after walking around, and darn if it was gone in 10 min. :'(, I won't be so lazy next time!!  Rang report, pleas.  DP.

Are both the 22" barrels ? You know that you have a great donor barrel for a ton of 224 rechambers now , every thing from the 218 Bee up to the 222 Rem and a bunch more that H&R dosen't make . Most can be done for around $100 or so .

Richard, I am looking into getting something done.Either based on the 30-30 case or the 357 case. That way  I have a commonality of brass.  Any suggestions???      Doug

Doug

Well , lets see what we can come up with .

357 mag = 22 Rem Jet
357 Max = 224 GNR , 224 C&R Maxi
223 rem = 221 Fireball
30/30 = 219 Zipper , 219 Wasp , 22-30/30

This is just a short list of Wildcats and used to be Wildcats , there are still a bunch of factory rounds that could also be done were there is still brass made for them were as no forming is required .

I did consider the 22Jet, but I am not sure the reamer would clean up the 22 Hornet chamber,I will get a email off to Wayne"THE WONDER WORKER"  the first of the week. The other thing that bothers me is the twist rate on the 22Hornets.If I remember correctly it is 1 in 14 and I am not sure what cartridge that   would work best with.    Doug

Doug

Poor Wayne is going to think the whole world is nuts , I just talked to him last week about doing a Jet for me with an extra 22 Mag barrel that I have .  With the jet having such a small case cap we were thinking that the 1 in 16 twist of the mag would work better if used with the 35 up to 45 grain bullets .

With the Hornet having a 1 in 12 twist it should shoot the 45 to 55 grain bullets but that would mean a larger case cap , I know that Marv ( dalti ) has a Zipper and it shoots well .
