Handi .308 help
« on: May 06, 2008, 10:34:54 PM »
I have the above listed rifle and have encountered a problem since I purchased it. (wish I had found this site a couple of years ago!)
It will not eject, period.
Fired - unfired - new - reloads and I even had some surplus 7.62 and nothing would eject. Once in a blue moon I could get two rounds off trying to sight in before they would stick. I didn't shoot much needless to say nor did I have a lot of extra time.
(I bought it to take care of coyotes mainly.)
I cleaned the casings and checked/cleaned the chamber as well.
When I say that the casings were stuck I mean to the point that I have broken a wooden dowel rod trying to get a new casing out of the chamber and that was after I had waited a couple of days to get it out. (This was getting real old fast) I have probably only fired maybe 10-12 no more than 15 rounds through it.
I've already contacted the company and they are taking care of it along with reducing the trigger pull, in fact I hope to to get it back within the next week.

Another question I have is what should the primers look like after firing, mine were/are flat. I compared them to my fired brass from my M1A (rounded). I also have a friend that has a Ruger #1 and his were rounded as well.
Is there any reason for concern or is this normal in the NEF rifles?

What are some ideas as to what was wrong with it.

Thanks
Steamn.

The sticking cases and flat primers sound like indications of excessive pressure to me.  Since you mention this being a problem with new ammo as well as reloads (and have cleaned the cartridges and chamber), I'd have to suspect the common problem being the rifle / chamber being out of spec somewhere.  I'd say it's worth getting it checked out by a competant gunsmith or calling the factory and seeing what they suggest.

Good luck and please post back and let us know what you find out, thanks.
Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason…

I got my rifle back from H&R today, all they done was replaced the ejector by what the invoice states, didn't get the trigger job that I requested so I'll give it a try myself.
Now I've got to get the sister-in-laws wedding out of the way so I can start getting it sighted in and the barrel shot in,
