45-70 & Red dot sights ??
« on: May 04, 2008, 04:58:00 PM »
I did not want to hijack another thread.  Has anyone found a red dot sight that holds up on the 45-70.  Last I could find in the old threds some members could not get the red dot sights to hold up to the punishment.  I do however see some newer pictures in posts with what appears to be red dot sights on 45-70 rifles????

I've got a Bushnell 1" Red Dot on my Remington 870.  I'd try one on my .45-70 Handi which doesn't kick as much as the 870 with slugs or turkey loads.  Of course, I'm not trying to load the .45-70 to maximum power.

One of my shooting friends put a BSA 30MM red dot on his 45/70 and it has held up.He likes it and it is accurate.

I think I will try this Bushnell Trophy I have on the bench.  On thing I learned the hard way with my bow sights is it never hurts to have extra batteries along.  I get laser pointers at the dollar store and they come with extra batteries that work in the bow sights, red dot sights, electronic calipers, ect ect.

I got the 50mm BSA Red Dot.Dunno about recoil but the parallax is horrible. Just move your head a bit sideways and see what happens to the Dot. Scattergun maybe but not on a rifle for me.
