The gun will stand more than your shoulder will.  The Handi is rated for the same load levels as the lever action Marlin guns.  And ammo can be shipped by UPS, but not thru the post office.  It gets pretty pricey to ship that way, but it is doable.

There isn't any factory ammo that can't be used in a Handi 45-70 unless it's loaded too long for a short throat which most H&R 45-70s have, all of Buffalo Bores ammo is sutiable for a Handi, as well as most of Garrett's ammo, but their 500gr+ ammo may be too long to chamber, see the note on that issue at Buffalo Bore. Considering the Handi is factory available in 500 S&W at pressures above any 45-70 data, I wouldn't worry about any load being too hot for the rifle, just too hot for your body!! ;D  See the link in the FAQs on 45-70 loads.

As Daniel said, ammo can only be shipped ground UPS or Fedex, must be marked "ORM-D cartridges small arms"

I shot 20 rounds of warm-ish lever action loads, and a half-dozen of the leverevolution loads through my Dad's marlin this past weekend. After about ten they hurt more and more. I have a nice green-blue bruise now.

I have a handi rifle and several marlins in 45-70 and they do kick with stout loads.  That's why I mostly use plinking loads with 300 gr bullets in them.  When I do load up stout loads I always use a magnum recoil shield on my shoulder.  Then all I have to worry about is a soar neck from whiplash.

How does your rifle do with the Leverevo ammunition?

I have not received my barrel yet.
I have shot my friends cowboy several times not only does try to turn you around, give you
whiplash, i think if you aren't careful it would cross your eyes. ;D :o
Of course can't wait to get my barrel and match it to a receiver

I loaded some lead 405 grain bullets that I bet you couldn't finish a box of 50  :)
I added a classic looking lace on gel pad thing that helped 300%.

I find trap door loads (or even less) are not a problem if you take 50 or more to the range, plus you can still hit 500meters (or over if you got the range) with lead.
