Source for 10-28 threaded inserts?
« on: April 26, 2008, 07:09:11 PM »
I would like to install a couple of brass threaded inserts into the wrist of my buffalo classic to mount a tang sight. Problem is, I can't seem to find any in 10-28 thread. Anyone know a source of them? I'd like to use the stock screws for the sight if I can, but it's not a big deal if I have to use different screws, either.

10-28 may be a trick to fine, you may be able to fine some 8-32 and drill and tap them to 10-28.  I may even have some #10's but I doubt they are 28's, more likely 32's.  They are hard aluminum.  I will take a look on Monday if you want.  Larry

John Boy used 10-32 inserts epoxied in the wrist.

That's exactly what I'm already doing ;)

I just wanted to see if 10-28 could be found somewhere. Now I guess I'll have to find some screws of a more common thread that will look the part.

Not brass, but its a system that I bet would work.

I have used this to mount things like arrow quivers, etc on my compound bow.  After 20 years they are still holding.
The advantage to this method is the threaded insert expands into the hole much like a pop rivet.

I personally used 2 screws (pre drilled) direct into the wood.  Last time I used the gun it 20 deg out. Sighted for 100 yards.
Brought the gun out last weekend at 75 deg and damp, sights still right on 100 yards.
If my screws start to fail, I will use the above method.

I just noticed these are 8x32.
