What is your Utillity Belt Knife, Brush Knife, Camp Knife

Mine is a USAF issue survival knife made by Ontario knife company. For a brush knife (short Machete) I use a British Parang (i'll post a pic later). And a D H Russell belt knife for camp and game cleaning

 If serious skinning is involved an old, carbon steel  old timer gets the nod.  For a belt knife either  buck 110 folder or  buck special  all though I have been carrying a old hickory butcher knife in a sheath a lot lately  and it gets a passing grade.  camp/just handy to have knife I carry an old hickory paring knife in a back pocket sheath (home made) all the time. I have carried a swiss army knife for years  but with the all out assalt on American manufactured products (trying to take every thing over seas) I have switched over to an ontario/old hikory barlow sense I all ready carry a screw driver and p-38 as for a chopper I have and like the fiskar (yes  know its made in finland but there is nothing like it American made) brush hook A 4" rapala fillet knife is hand to have around camp too! I will not carry China or pakastan made knife or anything that used to be American made and is now made off shore

I carry a variety of custom made knives, either my make or other makers, for hunting. All the blades are either 154CM or D-2. My go to all around knife is one I make called the PAK in 154CM for hiking, backpacking and general woodsmanship.  I also carry a modified Incolma machete that has been spear pointed and cut back to a 12" blade as a " pack knife".  For folders I use a SAK "ranger" in my pack when hiking.  For EDC I currently carry  either a Spyderco Native, that I modified to a flat grind, in S-30V or a Queen Country Cousin in D-2.  I've no use for the heavy choppers; I think they are a ludicrous concept.  My incolma weighs 6 oz and will cut green wood up to 3" better than most things I've seen; or I carry either a Gerber folding saw or a small hatchet if I feel I'm going to need something along those lines and will be dealing with hard, dry stuff.  Here in the heavily forested Allegheny Mountains of PA there's plenty of squaw wood and larger pieces laying around everywhere that just need to be picked up or broken off the tree.

Years ago, I back packed into remote wilderness of Colorado for trophy mule deer.  To save weight, I did not bring a tent.  Instead, I carried lightweight parachute cord and a cheap tarp.  The KA BAR was useful to cut branches for framing a comfortable shelter.  The hunt was successful.  The animal was boned and quartered with this knife as well. Deer are easy to skin when they're still warm.

My pocket knife is a GI issue Camillus "boy scout" knife.  Its easy to hone to razor edge!

You sir must live in a cave , no one in their right mind packs a ka bar anymore , too old school , you need something new , something hip , possibly a space age handle , tactical clip and a built in navagation system with the word "SWAT" laser etched across the blade.

I carry the big swiss army knife with the saw & pliers in a pouch with a mini mag.  Hunting, backpacking & work. I sold all my fixed blade knives. This one does it all for me. Im gonna pick up a cold steel bushman to hang on my pack before hunting season.

Since I don't hunt nor fish too far from my home, I carry a Cold Steel Trail Guide Carbon V steel folder with clip. And also a Spyderco Delica. Also a Buck Quest. All are about 4" closed or less. I haven't decided on a larger sheath knife yet.

I always carry a Spyderco Delica plain edge and a Vitrolonox classic in my pants pockets all the time every day.

When I go deer hunting, I have in my fanny pack a Cold Steel Master hunter with the carbonV blade.

When I go small game/upland bird hunting, I have an oldtimer Sharpfinger in my fanny pack.

So how big does a knife have to be to be a "BRUSH " knife? Mines gutted deer, quartered an elk, cut branches for setting stands or building lean to,s  Ive never felt under knifed with it. To ME thats the perfect Utility,Brush,Camp knife 


 P.S comes with a toothpick too for picking jerky out of your teeth

I have had very good luck with Cold Steel over the past decade.   Belt knife--------4" voyager folder............Brush knife -------LTC Kukhri ............and Camp knife---------7" Bushman

Im a trapper so I have a lots of knives(about 10 different styles of skinning knives) For a pocket knife I carry what ever decent knife is closest to me when I go out the door(case,gerber,etc..). My hunting knife is generally an old sharpfinger with many miles on it. For a brush knife I usually carry one out of my forge that I dont care to abuse..Like one made from a high carbon railroad spike..Not the best material by any means but I can put a real good edge on one(just dosnt stay there a long time) and make the blade shape just to suit me.  The spike head makes a handy "hammer" if need be and I usually leave the spine thick enough so that I can tap on it with a wooden club with no worry about damage to the blade..Next batch of tool steel I get my hands on it going to be used for a good brush knife..

Leatherman surge on belt, Classic Blades Trail Guide or an old Gerber drop point hunter for making meat or other camp chores. I just go around most brush that would need clearing! At 6'5" and 275 it takes a D5 Cat to make a serviceable trail.
