Hi point 995 ammo
« on: April 08, 2008, 08:26:55 AM »
Just picked up my 995 carbine w/laser!  Its sweet!!!
Wanted to know if anyone knows what the best ammo is going
to be for accuracy?  I like the buckets of cheap 9mm but its nice to have
a few tack driving rounds on hand.

I've used CCI Blazers, CCI Blazers Brass, Winchester, & Remington 115-grain with no problems. The only hollow points I've tried so far were the Winchester Subsonics and they performed flawlessly.  My 995 doesn't seem to be ammo finicky.  The thing that really amazed me the most about my 995 is how accurate it is.  I put a BSA red dot scope on ($29.95)....and sighted it in at 50 yards and it is "DEAD-CENTER-ACCURATE"!  At 100 yards I can get under 3 inch groups.  Not bad at all for a brand new 9mm carbine that cost me $200.00 OTD.

Shot a bunch of different ammo through my 995
yesterday all worked flawlessly.  Even the cheapest
Russian 115 fmj had about a 4 inch group a 25 yards.
(That's offhand too) WWB 115's were about the same.
Still breaking the barrel in!

All I have been shooting is the Winchester white box value pack 115-gr and report zero problems in my 995.

Checking through my records, I found these results for my tests with the M995.  I chronographed Ultramax 125 RN at 1200 FPS.  Accuracy was not good with 2 of the 10 shots off the paper and the other 8 strung in a vertical group 8" long and 1.5 wide.

WW white box 115RN chronographed at 1371FPS, and was very accurate.  My partner and I took turns smashing small fragments of clay targets scattered across the berm @ about 35yds.  We hit quarter sized targets with ease.  It was almost boring.  But not quite.  :)

The last test was Corbon 115 JHP +P.  This averaged 1528 FPS accuracy was good.  They all shot into a 2 1/4" group @ 50 yds. This stuff is way too expensive for plinking, but would be my first choice for self defense.

All groups were shot with stock open sights that came on the carbine.  Paper targets were shot from the bench at a range of 50yds.  WW white box was shot at a quarry over the chronograph with no paper target.
