Alaska fall hunts
« on: April 07, 2008, 10:16:50 AM »
Here are a few hunts from the fall in Alaska and some of the game you can take.

This was a tier II hunt in unit 13, which is north southcentral Alaska, on the south side of Denali park.  A good bull with good think beams.  Here is me and the girl with him.  Taken with a rem 710 in 30-06, nostler partition.  Hit the top side of the shoulder blade, through the spine, dropped like a rock.  We stalked within about 70 yards of him, he was across a river, and had no idea the three of us were there.  We spotted him from about a mile across the valley.

The small river we had to cross to get to him, back to the trail from him.  A little look at the valley we were hunting.  Lots of small brush, and some small black spruce trees.

This is ptarmigan hunting past oracle mine on the kenai peninsule, we hiked about 7 miles till we got to this part of the valley where all the brush is that the ptarmigan like.

A look from back where we came.

Flying meat.  A few of the birds we shot that day.

Fall duck hunting, here is some more flying meat.  Mossberg 935 autoloading 12 gauge.  These were mostly ring necks, with a couple others.

I love those blue spots on the bottom of mallards wings.

He ain't a bird dog, but he can pretend.  Spruce grouse, taken with a single-six.
