Was disappointed Now Happy with Freedom Arms
« on: March 28, 2008, 11:27:02 AM »
Recently received a holster and "matching" cartridge holder for my 45LC model 97.   Holster is tan, cartridge holder is reddish, not even close.

Sent an email asking if I could return the cartridge holder for one that matches.  Reply reads: "sorry if your items are a different shade now. We have no control over the variation in leather, the leather will also change shades as it is exposed to sun and use. Thank you Linda"

Who does have control of the leather color, the cow?  Sure leather changes a little in color, but not from tan to red.

GRainwater :  there are a number of things you could do :  if it was me I would just give them a call and see if they could make exception and let me cover the shipping for them to take them both back and send back a couple that match a little better, at least out the box at the outset...
being a kind of simple and bubba kinda dude I would probably just get some shoe polish in the color I preferred or some mink oil and darken the whole she-bang so that it matched better.. I did that with a couple of belts and holsters and they came out good enough for me... but I am as self described above...
I made mine look a lot closer to the same, and it gave them a crusty look that I kinda like... but I did not pay the bucks for the finer FA leather ware... perhaps Bob B. is lurking around and he can advise since he is connected there...
maybe it was not understood that it had just been received in two different colors and had not been in hand for very long... additionally, in all reality it is best to handle such matters on the phone... I truly get better results than over the net...
easy to say no when there is no inflection or personal touch..
I can only say that when I have called and had questions the FA bunch were helpful and honest and knowlegeable... had sight questions and was advised well and treated very well.... a very enjoyable telephone conversation ending with a small package coming my way in short order...
I think you will be happy before it is over... if not..and you want to sell that qualitly leather cheap post it here... I do not care what colors it is.. I will just put shoe die on it any way then mink oil it and such... think Rustic... think Coonasse... that is me..

The holster will darken with use.  This is the nature of oil tanned leather.  It is functional gear ... not cosmetic.

kennisondan:  Thanks, good suggestion.  I called and Linda was very helpful.  I'll be sending the cartridge holder back for a refund.  She is also going to exchange the holster for another model.

MarkH:  I have an older holster from Freedom Arms and it has changed color, but I have never seen tan leather turn red.  For you it is functional gear.  For me it is also fashion.  Want to look good for the dears, uh deer.  And buying matching gear is cheaper than making bail on a third degree misdemeanor for offensive dressing without a license.

I recently emailed them inquiring about 2 new front sights. About 8 minutes later I received an answer from Linda about credit card info and so on. I ordered the sight and 6 days (or so) later they appeared in my mailbox. Super service, and Linda if you're listening: you are a sweetheart  :P

All of my experience with Freedom Arms has been fantastic.  They do what they say, when they say, for the cost they quote and the workmanship is outstanding.  I wish more companies understood this concept.  Thanks Freedom Arms.

Change that "disappointed" to "Happy with Freedom Arms".  Sent in my holster and cartridge holder.  They quickly replaced the holster for a model that accommodates a scope and exchanged the cartridge holder for a front sight I wanted.  Got the replacements quickly.  Good customer service.
