lefty 22?
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:32:26 AM »
Hello,

I'm trying to come up with a lefty 22 for my daughter. Does anyone know of a lefty 22 bolt or semi auto. I haven't found any. Thanks and God Bless!

Take a look at Savage Arms.  I haven't looked lately, but they had one or two a couple of years ago.

I have a Savage MKIIGL, the left hand wood stocked .22lr Bolt.

They offer it in a youth model, but the standard is not too big.  With HV ammo and a 1.5-4.5 scope, it will group into about an inch or 1.5 inches at 50 yards.

I like mine a lot.

One thing I didnt like was the 10 round mags sticking way out, right where I like to carry it.  I ordered a couple of 5 round mags from savage and they are great.

A single shot alternative is the H&R Handi Rifle or a Contender Carbine.

I have a lefty Savage Mark II. From day one mine would never shoot a decent group, there were times I wanted to wrap it around a tree. However I am sure that I just got a lemon as I have two different friends with Mark II that are real shooters. I have also been around other associates with mark II that shot good. I would not be afraid to buy another one if I needed a relatively inexpensive .22. I keep mine just for something that I can practice gunsmithing ideas with and not be afraid of screwing something up.

Last spring I bought a lefty CZ 452 American. Not only is it one of the prettier rifles I own but it is one heck of a shooter. I am in love with it, almost in an unhealthy way. ;D

It depends on how old your daughter is and what kind of a rifle you are willing to buy for her. If you are looking for an inexpensive functional starter rifle I would say go with the Savage. If she is older and you are looking for a fine rifle and don't mind paying a little more for it, you can't go wrong with a CZ.

Get her a Browning semi-auto.  Bottom ejection fits both right and left hand shooters.  The safety is one the right though.
