BAR manufacture dates

Brownings web site says:
"In 1969 Browning started using two digits for the date of manufacture:
M=BAR High Power Rifle
This was then followed by the serial number beginning with 1000.
Example: 69M1000 = A 1969 BAR High Power rifle with a serial number of 1000"

My BAR in 30.06 has a serial # with a little different convention.  Mine is XXX67M71.  I assume it was made in 71, because BAR production started in 68. 

Is Brownings web site inaccurate with year (69) before M (=BAR high power rifle) followed by serial # beginning with 1000, or is the serial # on my gun stamped wrong?

If someone with a BAR made between 68 and 75 could check there serial # to see if the year is first then M then serial # or serial # then M then year.

The proper sporting B.A.R. serialization is:

1967="M7" suffix after serial #, 1968="M8", 1969= "M69", 1970="M70",  1971="M71", 1972="M72",
1973="M73",  1974="M74", 1975="M75", 1976="M76" (some),
(some)1976 to date= New sequence, starting with "RT" appearing in the middle of the serial #,
1977="RR"  ,1978="RP",  1979="RN",  1980="PM",  1981="PZ",   1982="PY",   1983="PX"'
1984="PW", 1985="PV", 1986="PT",  1987="PR",  1988="PP",  1989="PN", 1990="NM",
1991="NZ",  1992="NY",  1993="NX",  1994="NW",  1995="NV",  1996=NT",  1997="NR",
1998="NP",  1999="NN",  2000="MM",  2001="MZ"  2002="MY",  2003="MX",  2004="MW", 
2005="MV",  2006="MU", 2007="MT", and 2008="MS".

Thanks, I am still confused though?  On Brownings web site, they say that production of the BAR started in 1968.  If I am reading your response correctly, looks like I may have a 1967?  Do you have a source for that info that you can share?  Thanks!

I believe you're misreading my response.

[Mine is XXX67M71.]

  A BAR serial number, with an "M71" suffix at the end of the serial number (XXX67) indicates 1971 manufacture.

[Do you have a source for that info that you can share?]
