M77 MKII Recoil Pad

The other day, fighting mid-winter boredom, I was punching paper with my .308.  I put a sandbag on the porch rail and kneeling, resting on the bag shooting.  I don't know if it was the position I was in or what, but a couple of times, even though I was holding the rifle in tight, it would slip a quarter inch down on my shoulder as I was squeezing off.  You could miss da tirty point buck dat way!  I was wearing insulated coveralls.  I looked at the recoil pad, and was amazed it is as smooth as a baby's butt.  I've had the rifle a long time, and just never had a problem with it and never noticed it.  Any suggestions for a change on the recoil pad??............velcro maybe or super glue?

How about some sandpaper to rough it up before you go spending any money??

I thought about that or grooving it with a file, but with my luck I'd botch up a beautiful rifle.  I'm going to see if Limbsaver has anything that will fit off the shelf.  Failing in that, I'll take it off, coarse sand it, then groove it.  Those coveralls are "silent camo" and are soft and slippery.  Thanks for the input.  Pete

I added a Limbsaver pad to my MK2 in .350 Rem Mag, and what a difference! Tamed the recoil and was a perfect fit.

I was looking at them yesterday.  Which one did you use?  I hear a lot of good things about them.

My .350 is a stainless/synthetic, so I bought the prefit pad for M77 synthetic. It fit perfectly with no modifications.
