BAR question???
« on: March 11, 2008, 03:37:17 AM »
Any lefties shooting a right handed BAR model?  I want to buy a composite BAR, however, Browning does not make a left handed composite BAR.  Only wood models for us lefties.  I was wondering if the thrown brass is an issue.  I shoot many other right handed guns that the thrown brass is not an issue.  Please advise.

Not a lefty here but I do have a lightweight 'Stalker' 308 BAR. When I imagine the brass going the other way I don't see how it would be a problem. The safety may be a little backwards for you but maybe it can be reversed if desired. I went with my version because I'm a 308 fan and wanted a 20" & to save a few oz's on weight.

Sourdough,

Thanks for your response.   I looked on Browning site and Bud's, and the composite BAR is lighter then the composite lightweight stalker.  Am I missing something?  Are you saving weight because you are using the iron sights with no scope?

My BAR is 3-4 yrs old. They didn't have some of the newer models at that time, I'm still happy with mine. I have the 07 & 08 catalogs right here. My model is has 8118 as the last 4 of the code #. The book shows the BAR lightweight stalker at 6lbs 14oz.  Yes I see the newer 22" model 308 at 6lbs 10oz, that's a model that I don't think was around when I made my decision. I like the traditional look & mostly compared to the steel receiver version. If I was to shop today I would look over all the models  & even consider a cool looking camo version. My kids think the camo guns are cool but I don't feel like paying to much extra for them. I can say for sure that when it comes to a semi-auto hunting rifle the BAR is a great choice. I am also partial to short action rounds when it comes to a semi-auto action, but that's just personal preference.

Just to confirm 1sourdoughs comment on the safety. Yes they can be reversed for Lefty's. I once bought a 338 with the safety set for left hand use. I reversed it with no problem. Regards, Byron
