Well, I've broken the news to my spouse, and explained that I've been watching for a nice, used revolver (she is more comfortable with revolvers than semi-autos), and that I came across this 686 in really great shape, for a really great price, half of what a new 686 would run.
She basically said if I thought it was good deal to go ahead... good thing, too... 'cause it came home today after the 72-hour waiting period.
I really lucked out, this gun is in great shape, solid at the cylinder with just the teeniest play, good cylinder gap, no forward/back motion, forcing cones seem very sharp and distinct, barrel is super clean and the grooves seem real sharp. Hardly any wear on the rear sight, so probably not a daily duty gun. With two speed loaders and case (no owner's manual and no key for the internal lock) was $345, plus tax and $5 ID check fee.
If any S&W 686 owners have recommendations for favorite practice ammo (both .38 Special and .357), or any ammo to avoid, I'm all ears!
