Browning rifle question
« on: February 23, 2008, 03:03:28 AM »
I am going today to look at a Browning rifle in 7mm-08 Remington. It is at a gun shop and the dealer told me that it was a  used black synthetic stock with a blued bbl. He wants $400.00 for it. I understand that Browning made some improvements over the years but I am not a ware of them and don't know what to look for. I don't know if it will be a good deal or not. The Browning web site doesn't even list a 7mm-08 for that rifle now. I also find in my research the words : A-Bolt and A- Bolt II. What is the difference there?

Don't know if you bought it or not but a new A-Bolt is just below $600 usually. If it's a low round count in 'like new' condition it would be a fine deal. Depending on the store/seller maybe you could offer a little less since it's an off time of year. I have several A-Bolts & don't quite know the difference between I & II but I can't imagine it is much. Either will take a Timney replacement spring if you desire. That's all I ever felt like doing to my A-Bolts, not that it was essential either.

The A-bolt II has a redesigned bolt that it supposed to work more smoothly. Some believe the stock on the original A-bolt synthetic was a higher quality, stiffer stock.
