model 625 ???

looking to buy a model 625 model S&W 1989 model , 5 in  thats had the full performance treatment,  this puppy is a smooth machine, 45acp, with hogue camo lamo grips , galco holster, and 10 moon clips, iam iffy on a 45 acp because of the moon clip issue  but this has really bit  my likes buttons,  hes askin 850 for it ? whats  everyones thoughts , guns stainless an looks new

To assess this deal, you have to ask yourself what it would take to duplicate it. There are several places online where you can buy a used 5" 625 in good shape for $550. I live in western Washington and due to local conditions, I'd have to add about $75 to get it shipped and transferred through an FFL holder. If I bought the holster and grips locally, add $75 for the holster and $65 for the grips. That gets me to $765, plus the time and gas money to drive around to find the holster and grips, or another $10-15 to have them shipped.

Then there's the custom work. A decent action job on a Smith is not cheap, plus there would be a wait of at least a couple of months for a local guy to do it, and longer if it went to Bowen. So I'd be getting the work for $50-75, plus no waiting time. If that works out for you, then you've got yourself a pretty good deal. The moon-clip issue is a love-hate thing for most people. I'd probably use 45 Auto Rim brass and treat it like any other rimmed revolver cartridge.

I have seen them in my area for $650.00 on Dealers tables at the gun shows and many times they are taking them home. I recently Paid $795.00 for an Unfired model 25-2 that dates 1977 with it's presentation case, unused tools and paperwork shipped to my FFL. The model 25-2's are going sky high lately in my area when they show up which for me has not been for well over Three years, that is why I dove on the one I bought.. Hammerdown

If you really want this revolver, Go for it. I have Procrastinated before and all that did for me was make the gun disappear. I feel if I paid say $75.00 or even $100.00 too much for a S&W usually within a Year or so, They are up to that Point or beyond. I only have one stainless gun in my collection being a model 66 K-Frame .357 Magnum that a friend gave me. I used to have a model 629 and it shot Loose in rather quick time and I did not feel I ran all that many hot loads through it to make this Happen. I since have steered clear of stainless S&W revolvers feeling it may not take the Warmer load Punishment that my Carbon steel revolvers will and do take on a regular diet. The .45 ACP caiber is not known for being a high pressure load compared to  the Hotter Center Fire magnums, so perhaps a stainless revolver in this caliber would be fine. I hope you get the revolver with your swap offer, because my past experience has been when I waited I Missed out on what I really wanted to have.. Regards, Hammerdown

When I wrote my first post, I didn't realize this gun had been through the S&W Performance Center. Their cheap action job is $125 and it's backed by Smith's warranty. Add shipping costs, and I'd like to upgrade my recommendation to a strong "Buy NOW".
