Green Hornet Ready
« on: February 09, 2008, 02:51:15 PM »
My camo Hornet has been bedded and the lock-up improved so I am ready for the range. All I need is some decent weather. A day at the range I am sure will go along way towards curing my 'cabin fever'. Man, I cannot wait until spring. The conditions are poor for coyote hunting and I still haven't been to the range to check out the 204 40 gr Vmax loads that I plan to use on the critters. This summer is going to be taken up with allot of ground hog hunting ;D

I know how you feel.  I pick-up a nice used .204 this winter and am looking forward to getting some range time with it.  I've loaded a variety of loads for several different calibers in preparation for ground hog season.

Last week I met with the farmer where I hunt them at in preparation to this summers activities.

We've had a rather mild winter.  Not much snow,  but the range is mucky from rain and what little snow we have had and the winds have been relentless.  Expecting 50-70 mph gusts today!

Hi Evoc:

I have to admit though that I am finding good excuses to stay warm and dry at home easier and easier to come up with as I have gotten older ;)

Mc, glad ya got the Green Hornet already to go, will be looking forward to your range report.  ;)

I have to agree on the cold, I used to winter steelhead fish, but it's just too cold for me any more, if it was more productive and I could move around more as in still hunting, it would probably be more to my liking, but standing knee to waste deep in very cold water in very cold air temps and clearing the ice from the guides on every cast, just isn't my cup O'tea any more. At least when hunting in cold and/or wet weather, I can move around and not freeze up myself!! My next range trip will be in March when they open for business on Wednesdays, looking forward to that big time, I've got several guns and/or loads that need to be shot.  ;D

Tim, when I lived in Vancouver B.C. I used to fish for steel-head. Cold work.

I have high hopes for my Green Hornet as it shoots extremely well without the fore-end on.

Mc sounds like you are ready for the ground hogs. What are you going to try in the "Green Hornet''?

Yup winter is tough no doubt. It only got to 65 under sunny skies here today. Winds tho were 10-20 mph so a sweat shirt still felt good while I was out riding around on my four wheeler. I rode around all the way from the front of my property to the far back side of it looking things over.

GB is that 65 above or 65 below? It feels like 65 below here in 'southern' Ontario with a bitter wind. The Green Hornet likes 32 gr. Vmax'x over 12 gr of Lil'gun. So look out ground hogs come spring.

Mc,

That Green Hornet sounds like a lot of fun. Went to the Lansing Deer & turkey Show Saturday, to cure a little cabin fever. It got down to -20 F (-8 C) here last night, don't know what it was with the windchill, but it was cold enough to freeze the u-know-what's off a brass bulldog. It is up to a balmy 8 F here right now, but is supposed to get down to the bitter stuff again tonight and the next three days. When I lived in the U.P., we would get them unreal 40 below and colder nights occasionally, then tack on the windchill. Brrrrrrrrr!

I don't think them thermometers go down to 65 below down in AL, would likely give them southern boys a heart attack. ;)
