Spitzer bullets for the 38-55
« on: February 01, 2008, 06:50:59 PM »
Are there any jacketed spitzer bullets for the 38-55.  I can get Barns in .377 but that is all I've found.
I am thinking about building a 38 X 444 but the lack of good bullets may keep this from happening.
You should have said something; I didn't know I had struck a nerve.

I doubt it since most spitzers were made for true 375 cal rifles, not 38 cal.  Maybe use .375 dia and paper patch them?

I have thought about the paper patch idea in my 38-55 for making a 375 whisper to shoot big bullets sub sonic.  My line of thinking is big thump low noise ...just different and fun.  Never really thought about it in terms of shooting max loads.   There is bound to be a mould maker somewhere that would make what you wanted in the proper size in a gas checked bullet.  A gas checked lead bullet could be shot very fast with little or no leading.
