What is the best economical .243 bolt action rifle for hunting deer and varmints?  New or Used.  Under $400?  Under $700?

Under $400 would have to be a Stevens 200.
Under $700 would have to be Savage, Tikka, CZ......

That is just my opinion.

Under $400 the Stevens 200 hands down. Under $700 take your pick. The $$$ you save with the Stevens 200 you can put into a decent scope.

Under $700 I would take a look at the Ruger MKII Varmiter, mine is an absolute tack driver and will shoot 5 shot groups that can be easily covered with a dime at 100 yards

SAVAGE - you cover both ends of your range - economical, reliable and accurate. If you want pretty - CZ w/ wood stock.

The Stevens is a 110 Savage action without the accutrigger. I left a .243 new in the box youth model on the table for $225 out the door. Been kicking myself ever since. If the guy still has it next month I`ll bring it home.

I bought a Stevens this season and it shoots very well for me.  The only thing about this rifle that I slightly disliked is the stock...It looks kind of cheap, but I airbrushed it and I think it looks awesome now.  It shoots 70 up to 100 grain factory loads right around MOA all day long, it has the recoil of a .410, and I only paid $269 for it brand new.  Get a good scope and a Stevens and you will be more than satisfied!  Good huntin!

In the under $700 range, I've got my Ruger M77 MKIIs  (25-06 and 260 Rem). Under $400 I've got 2 Stevens 200s (223 and 243). I love em all.

The CZ550 in .243 w/Burris Fullfeild 2 3-9. 14 rounds fired, loves 100 grn PMC. Shipped to you ffl for $575. That's the best one!
