Who has a 624 and how does it shoot?  I am getting one.  I love the 44 Special.

I have both a 6.5" and a 4". I used to target shoot with the 6.5" and it is very accurate. Fit and finish are not all that great compared to the earlier Model 24s, but they are still a nice revolver. I really like the 4" the best because it packs so well. I shoot a 240-250 grain cast bullet over 8 grains of PowerPistol. This load is around 1,000 fps and is a really nice load in these revolvers. It is all you need and you don't need to go any faster.

For the small quantity of these that were made, they should be worth more than they are.

Thanks Steve,

Mines a 624 4" Target that was made in 1986-87.  I am picking it up this weekend.  I've loaded up 250 rounds of ammo. and I'm going to shoot the &$5# out of it!  The only other 44 Special I have any experience with is my Charter 44 Bulldog.  It is the new model and good for what it is.  It is not one you would want to shoot a lot with heavy loads nor will it hold up to doing that.  For a back pocket gun, it serves the purpose.  I have several 44 mags. and I am going to enjoy shooting the Special.  I have read they have an accuracy that is unbeatable in a good pistol.

Hello
I had one for a very short time span. I had swapped a Model 629 for it, but  shortl;y after getting it, I heard they had cylinder issues. I called S&W service about mine, and they confirmed it had been back and checked by them, once I provided them with my serial number. I was told  there was Two different reasons they recalled them, one being that the vendor over Bored the cylinder which would allow the Insertion and firing of a .44 Magnum round , which would have been a disaster because the model 624 Cylinder is NOT heat Treated to the same specs as the model 629 in .44 Magnum. The Other reason I was told that they had soft cylinders that did not get the right amount of Heat treating applied to them and they could Possibly Burst if loaded and fired with Warm Hand Loads. I looked into it, and S&W did NOT have any spare cylinders for this model. Mine had a Red Circle on the box about 3/4" In diameter which was supposed to show the revolver had been back to S&W and Inspected by them. Bad part is, if you buy a used one with No Box, They never marked the gun with any kind of Inspection stamp, so you would not know if you got a Problem child. I was Leary of mine, so I asked for S&W to send a Letter of Inspection to me, which they Inserted in all the factory checked box's but mine was missing the one that Came with it. When it showed up, I swapped the Gun off, and never looked Back..Be Careful about your used model 624 purchases.  Hammerdown

I have Model 24 6.5", a model 624 6.5", and a 624 4". All three of these revolvers shoot like a house afire.  Wonderful revolvers...

I Predict that you will be happy with yours.

My favorite load is 7.5 grs of Unique behind a 240-250 gr. Keith bullet.

I have recently been working with a 200 gr dbl ended W/C and when the weather breaks, will be working with that some more.

i just got my ruger blackhawk 4 5/8" conversion to 44 special and it is a great fun gun for me.
no S&Ws in 44 special yet ,but whoo knows what the future holds. dan
