Brass shotshells and smokeless powder
« on: January 18, 2008, 06:21:02 PM »
You guys seem pretty knowledgeable so I thought I'd ask here. Do any of you know of any published data for smokeless powder in all brass shotshells?

Thanks in advance,

If it was me, I wouldn't shoot those brass shotgun shells.

My Uncle was in the army and was a MP and he brought some home with him and gave me one as a keep sake.

I think that they are too valuable an item to be shot.

I don't know of anyone that still makes them and some day they will be a collectors item.

If you happen to shoot 16ga, they can be made from .50 BMG cases.

Rocky Mountain Cartridges Company makes them in 10 gauge and 12 gauge, plus has a reloding setup to go with them!

I've heard opinions against using smokeless in Magtech brass shells.  Personally, I can't see why not, but then I've only used GOEX ffg. At any rate, I'd use modest data from load tables.

You can't really use plastic wads as shell walls are thin and require a larger wad..  e.g; 11 gauge in a 12 ga. shell, and 14 gauge in a 16 ga. shell.

I have loaded the brass hulls for cowboy shooting and used the plastic shot wad in them. Yes they are loose as the brass hull is much wider than the plastic hulls. But they do help with the shot column in a OC shotgun. I load them with 65 grs of 2F and 1 1/8 oz of 7 1/2 shot in the plastic wad. Then place a overshot card and use a glue gun to seal the card in. The last step is putting a slight crimp with the RCBS Shotgun die so that they chamber well. Fire Away!!
