New Abu Garcias
« on: January 11, 2008, 01:39:32 PM »
I have used them all my life. I am wondering where the new ones are made. I haven't bought any reels in a long time and my old ones are going strong. I am going to buy a few more ambassadors just to have to retire a few of my very old antique reels. I am hoping to stick with them.

They are owned by Pure Fishing from Iowa. My guess is that that is where they are made.

I wouldn't count on that, I bought a new C602 a year or so ago, it's made in China for Pure.

That wouldn't surprise me as it seems that everything in the tackle industry is now made in China. That is a shame but that is the way that the industry has gone.

Ohh ok thanks guys. I won't be sending any of mine off to have them reworked. I found a few used ones that are in good shape and I plan on using those but I might buy one of their new Revo reels but I haven't made up my mind.

Plano tackle boxes are still made in Plano, IL as far as I know. I used to make molds for them at a mold shop in Yorkville, IL.  ;)

Maybe it was just mine but be careful about buying one of the cheapie Walmart Revos with out the mag adjustment.  The one I got lasted one long hard weekend last summer and it started getting tight when reeling in.  I took it back and picked up a Revo sx with mag adjust at Dicks I believe and have had no problems.  The mag adjustment has come in handy when fishing lighter lures.  Just my experience.

I've got a couple old A G reels that I have had 20 + yrs. On one of them the level wind got where it woundent slide. Took it apart and punched out a couple alum. shims with a paper punch, put them in, put it back togather and its good as new now. Got a couple fancy jap. reels but they usually just sit in the boxes. The A G is hard to beat.

I have many Garcias from 2500 to 10,000 my were all made in Sweden i am sure that is no longer the case.
I just can't get a way from them. their is a rebuild center in Dallas for Garcia, that is where i bought most of mine.
I believe the name of it is souyhwest sports, they were sent garcias from every where in the U.S. by the factory to be rebuilt.

There are several Abu Garcia repair centers, Southwestern is just one of them, depends on where you live and which one you want to send it to.  ;)
