New Barrels questions. Which ones?????????????????
« on: January 11, 2008, 08:43:21 AM »
I am sending my 22 hornet back to the company to have some new barrels and stocks fitted to it.  I am getting the 204 ruger and the ultra varmint stock fitted.  I am also wanting a barrel for turkey hunting.  Do you have any suggestions on which one to get.  I want it in 20 gauge I think.  What do you think?  Thanks for the input.  Comanche.

In 20 ga about the only choice would be the 26" full choke or the 28" with screw-in choke tubes , either one would work very well .

Don't know if they have any left, but you could call and ask.  The Pardner synthetic model came in a youth 22" with choke tubes.  No vent rib.  Can't remember if the same thing in adult was 26 or 28 inch.  The 22" would be excellent for Turkey for a 20ga.

I'm not sure I would.
I would look for a turkey gun as it's own frame.
From everything I have read here.  Switching barrels is a science project and torque wrenches are needed to keep your accuracy.
Would the 20ga require a different fore end just for it or are the 204 Ruger barrels a 20 ga with a 20 caliber hole bored in it?

The SB2 rifle frame is the same size as the SB1 shotgun frame - so he could actually put a regular 12ga barrel on it if he wanted too (I say regular because the 12ga Ultra Slug Hunter actually only fits on the 10ga frame).

Sorry - I was thinking frame when you were talking about forends.  My mistake - but from my understanding, the forends are indeed the same.

There is also the 32" full choked 12 ga for turkey.  With this you can sit under the roost and tickle the one you want with the barrel!   ;)  It also works for low flying waterfowl.

Seriously, the 22" barrel in 20 gauge would be a real nice walk about gun.  If you can get it with chokes, so much the better.
