« on: January 07, 2008, 10:03:49 AM »
Sent in my Handi 22 Hornet for repair, had a bad underlug , Thing is I sent it out on Sept 12th 2007 and just today got it back 1-7-2008.   long time for a repair. good thing is they put on a new barrel and no charge. I am headed out soon to buy a new scope for it,

Did they say what the hold up was? They may have been out of Hornet barrels, that's usually the cause for such a delay. Was the original an ejector by chance?

The amount of waiting time may be based on the amount of rejects they produce because they can't keep up with the repairs lol . :(

Yea.............and with "Ruger" one would never see that  ::)

Tim

everytime I called I gave my info to the rep and they said " wait this doesnt make sence, let me go check, Then came back and said it was done and needed a new barrel,  well anyway I got it back today  and Im happy, I stole my original scope for my marlin 880 22lr, so had to go to wallyworld and I ended up with a bushnell 4-12 sportsman. I really like the scope but it wont work with my mounts, need something higher for hammer clearence. Quick. what is the diff regarding ejector or extractor? My barrel is marked SB2 and frame is NEXXXXXX. I will get new mounts Tuesday and tonight will load some ammo using my red box lee loader starting with 4227   9.1 grains at about2300 fps and 40 gr. horandy v-max...its all I have right now. I mostly just punch paper but hope to get out for some fox and yotes soon.

NE = made in 1990, it was an ejector barrel, probably ejected the spent case over your shoulder, your new barrel is likely an extractor since that's all they make now, it will just lift the case out of the chamber enough for you to remove it by hand. Dunno what's up with their excuse, unless they had a handle on a donor barrel that was an ejector to replace yours with. ???

That pic looks familiar!! ;D

I'm curious. Did they charge for the repair? It seems the rifle was made in 1990 and alot can happen in 18 years. Are you the original owner? A long turnaround time is not great but if the factory covered a defect on a 18 year old gun that a plus.

Inquiring minds have to know, WHAT did happen to the ejector? And how did the roll pin get so buggered up? Was it a free repair? If so they are the best company on earth!!! An 18 year old gun, WOW :o :o :o....<><....:)

you owe them a free dinner or at least a letter of appreciation and a big hug if they took care of that at no cost!!!

No charge, that's fantastic, kudos to H&R CS!! I've read some horror stories about other manufacturers taking much longer than that and not fixing the problem, Beretta on a Tikka is one that's fresh in my mind.

Yes as Tim quoted me ,it was a free repair even shipping/handling . that was great,  I am not the original owner of this hornet, just got it last summer . from a private seller, never notice the lug until I went to shoot it and groups were bad.. Cant imagine what happened to it, anyway New Barrel= FREE, cant beat that with a stick.....Dale

Did you get the same barrel back (ejector fitted) or did they send you a new extractor only barrel? I would be interested to know if they can replace bad lugs on existing barrels with ones that are ejector fitted. If that is so then they have a supply of separate lugs. That opens up a whole new picture if we could get a few barrel lugs, ESPECIALLY ejector fitted ones!!!....<><....:)

well I went back and reread one of your posts, it seems they gave you a whole new barrel so there goes that hope, is your new barrel ejector fitted or does it have the extractor only?

My Luck , , Waited all this time to get the hornet back so yesterday took it out for a test drive and the extractor broke first shot. Will have to call them Monday and get a couple new ones and some springs also. Might as well keep a spare on hand.

That stinks!! :-\

Springs?? There's only one flat spring in an extractor, do you mean roll pins? They tend to get buggered up if you don't use the right size pin punch to R&R them.

Send them an email pic of it letting them know it's a Hornet, they should send it to you, they did that for me when they buggered a BC stock up, sent a pic, they sent me a new one. ;)

Sent H&R an e-mail and asked them to send me 2 new extractors and 2 new leaf springs, also sent a pic of my broken one. told them to bill me or let me know and i would pay by credit card first.  They responded quickly and said that they would ship them out, No Charge. You wont find many places like that anymore.  Good Deal  H&R.

The little curve in the leaf spring goes to the rear on top of the extractor when the barrel is upside down. There's a pic in the FAQs.
