3 coats?
No offense, but I believe it takes a lot more than that.
If you want to call it done after 3 coats, so be it, but
don't be afraid to lay down a lot more coats of Tru
Oil. Mine didn't even start coming around till about
7 or 8 coats. I used stripper to get the factory finish
off at first then I like to use 400 grit wet or dry to get the
wood ready for the stain. Then the Tru Oil. In between
coats I smoothed the finish out before the next coat
with 400 wet or dry. I wipe the wood down with a
dust cloth after sanding every coat. It took patience,
elbow grease, and a lot of time. (Appx 3 weeks)
You can't get in a hurry. The good news is you can
always add more coats later. The more coats you lay
down the more the grain comes out and the better
the wood looks IMHO.
This is what it looks like with 12-15 coats.
