New Handi-Mag pics..
« on: January 05, 2008, 08:33:36 AM »
I wasn't sure if this has been posted yet, but in case it hasn't.....They look good to me.. and looks like a set of different synthetics too.
http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Rifles/handimag.aspx

The Slug gun/rifle combo looks cool too. though they warn not to use this frame with other rifle barrels other than the 357 and 44Mag....sounds like a SB-1 with a smaller rifle firing pin maybe?

Being around not as much lately I figured it would have or at least should have been :)

I guess they are switching to the new synthetics with a few offerings this year.
That stainless 45/70 looks great. I am happy to see these additions as I know many are.. a good move on their part and hopefully Remingtons backing will keep these coming, and still keep the costs down as much as possibile.

Yeah I'm sad to see the Versa Pack leave as well. So does this mean no muzzleloaders from H&R anymore?

Sure looks like it, there are none on the website either. Another one they discontinued is the 38-55 Target, but it, the Huntsman and 22mag bull barrels are still on the accessory barrel list.

I noticed the 38-55 was missing, guess to many headaches from that one in the past. Guess if anyone want's a Huntsman ML barrel then nows the time to get one.
I am surprised to see as many changes this year as there are.  I can't help wonder if one reason they pulled the Versa Pack was because of people selling the 22 barrel from it for high $.

Did anyone else notice that the recoil pad on the new synthetics is not perpendicular to the bore?

Yup, must be a new ergonomic design, hope it works or that stock will be history, I'm not big on synthetic stocks to begin with, mine may end up with a camo laminated stock.

I also noticed the mag barrels aren't on the acc list, that's one way to keep em off older frames, don't sell em!! ;D

eskimo36.
The recoil pad should never be perpendicular to the bore, it should have pitch
at least 3" at 28" for most people.

Not sure I get the slug gun/rifle combo.   The main reason most people hunt with a slug gun is because their local game regulations do not permit them to hunt with a rifle. So it seems to me there would be a very limited market segment for such a combo.  In my case I did not even own a high power rifle until I moved south from New Jersey, a slug only State.

Rifle/shotgun or rifle/muzzle loader or rifle/shotgun/muzzleloader combos would make better marketing sense I would think.

I am not sure about what is right Fred, but the new stocks appear much different in the angle of the recoil pad.  I had never heard the 3"at 28" figure....thanks.

So Tim do I understand correctly that the 45-70 is available in the mag frame. If so, is it good for Ruger level loads or what?

Didn't think I would be 'intawested' in a mag but maybe with the lam stocks.

I don't know, the mag frames are blued, the frame of the 45-70 Ultra is described as stainless, not the usual nickel plated of previous  SS models, so maybe it's stronger, but it's made for trapdoor ammo of the Leverevolution variety, likely aimed at the Mississippi hunter. As far as Ruger levels, the current frame will handle those any way, specially the non- Hornady/Hodgdon data.

NEW Stainless Ultra Hunter with Thumbhole Stock
With the introduction of the Hornady LEVEREVOLUTION ammunition, the 45-70 Gov’t cartridge has been revitalized. As a result, we have expanded the 45-70 lineup with a first-ever all stainless barrel and receiver, super deluxe 45-70 with a brown laminate thumbhole stock. This rifle comes equipped with a ballistic-enhancing 24” stainless steel heavy barrel to help with those longer than average shots.

Tim has a link about gun fit, maybe he can dig it out again. Don't know where I saw it. It will tell you all about pitch and fit. A rifle or shotgun with no pitch will dig into your shoulder and hurt you depending on your build.

Your shoulder is not straight up and down but on a forward slope, a good fitting stock allows for that. A bad fitting stock makes felt recoil more
noticable.

That 300 looks nice, it's tempting, but I'll stick with my old tried and true brass slinging 30-06s.

Now if they come out with a .338 Win Mag, they would just convert me.

That would be a good set-up for Minnesota, too.  The southern part of the state is all "slug", but the north woods are legal for "rifle".  Just wish they came with open sights.

Is the .22LR/.410 Versa-Pack gone too?  My son is still less than a year old, but I wanted to get him one for his 4th or 5th birthday.  Maybe I'll have to look into a Rossi.  Yes, I like to plan ahead.

I really like the new 45-70. I like the new stocks and the 300win mag and I am glad its on a blued frame because I didn't like the Nickle. I sure hope the 45-70 has a stainless frame because it will get added to the list of wants. Its going to be strange not seeing the Sidekick anymore. I wonder if you can still order them now or if its too late?

I have been brainstorming about this and I love a 7mm,I currently own a A-Bolt in 7mm weatherby and I am looking into a new rifle.I have come up with a Idea.
1.gun shop nearby takes in trades
2.has offered me $550 for my current rifle+scope.
3.A-bolt is a sweet gun,BUT,7mm weatherby ammo is high dollar and hard to come by in my area.
4.7mm remmy ammo is $20 a box cheaper, and more pleantiful.
5.I can deal with a loss of a couple 100 feet per second speed,my farthest shot is about 300 yds when deer hunting.
CONCLUSION.
BYE-BYE A-Bolt,I'm getting a Handi in 7mm remmington Mag.

That is the first time I have heard of anyone swapping a A Bolt for a Handi. And what type of 7mag ammo is $20 a box, all I can find is $35 a box and that's corelokts.

Good decision deerslayer!! ;)

I bought 300 WinMag Federals for $18 a box not all that long ago, 338 WinMag Remingtons were $28 a box in October. Weatherby ammo looks to be $45 on sale,  and up to $75 a box :o, and I bet the prices locally aren't cheap either. :'(

Reloading for the Weatherby isn't bad...and if you don't reload...I would re barrel it to the 7mm Mag...There isn't any way I would take that big of loss on a rifle...A-bolt prices have gone up around here...a-lot..and they don't offer the Weatherby mags in them now...so that is a rare caliber for them

One year ago the Weatherby .338/378 ammo was $110.00 a box.  Brass is $47.00 a box.  I only get four loadings per box.  As you may guess I don't shoot it a lot.

I went to Wal-Mart today, they don't have anything on the new guns yet.  Going to Sportsman's Warehouse tomorrow, will find out if they can order one yet, and cost.
