I would say the medium rings for the 40mm scope but it would depend on how your face fits the stock.  If you have a slender face your not going to get a good cheek weld with the high rings.  And the reverse if you have a .... How do I say a pumpkin of a head with out offending you?  well sorry, if I offended you.  Especially if your a very large man and you live near me ...
Well if you do.  You may want the high rings to bring the scope to your line of sight and shoot comfortably.
The high rings are usually needed when you go large objective like 50mm or more normally.

No the American did not come with standard sights. I ended up ordering Burris deluxe .22 tip-off med rings from Brownells this morning..

I had to go to high rings using Burris Z rings and a Simmons 4.5-14x40 AO scope on my 452 American.  I tried mediums but the bolt didn't clear.  Another scopr/ring combination might work with medium.  I do not find the combination of Simmons & high Burris rings either awkward or unsightly on my rifle.  Good luck.  -WSJ

RGR that I forgot my bolt wouldnt clear with the mediums,I was going to remove the rear sight so I could use them but the bolt required me to use the leupold high rimfires.

I have same gun and scope.I like the CZ steel rings. I have less than quarter inch between scope and barrel.CZ has one height. You will be happy with gun and scope.

Scope seems pretty sweat so far, just mounted it this past weekend took her out so I could  sight in @ 100 yards. Fired off 5 rounds at a tin bucket, the group was nice tight. It was about 2 degree at the time , The snow was more like ice so I figured I'd be patience wait till the temp would rise but no luck the highest it got all weekend was about 18 degrees. Hopefully it warms up some so the footing is better, then the real test will come.

18 degrees and snow.  Don't believe you.  According to Al Gore my SUV has warmed the earth and there is no way you can have snow and ice.  Al Gore wouldn't lie.... After all he invented the Internet.
Rifle looks good.
When is the IRS going to send me the check to stimulate the economy?  I want another CZ now.
