Hunting Labs

Can anyone recommend a good breeder of labs with hunting instinct in the New York area? Looking for a lab with good hunting traits but also want a nice tempered dog as it will also be the family pet.

You are better off to stay away from them Puppy Mills - due to the fact that they do not always make the best all around dog.

More of the dogs that I see that are raised by these people tend to have more health issues and less friendly towards kids and family members.

Your best bet is to go to a local hunting club and ask the members what luck they have had with dogs in their area.  Usually somebody knows of somebody that has a good dog that is selling the pups.

Some of the best hunting dogs that I have owned were from a family where one parent had papers and the other one didn't.  I could go to their house and see their kennel and observe their parents.

One owner even left his dogs loose - Beagle, and within 5 minutes were bringing rabbits around the house.  One of my dogs I bought from him died  at 13 weeks old, I called him and the next day that man GAVE me a new one of my choice - free of charge.

Most breeders are only in it for the money.

They might say that the parents are good hunters and then you find out that the people that sold it to you do not hunt.

I bought a beagle like that once and all it did was eat, poop and bark!  You couldn't give it away!
