Help with Encore Purchase!

Contemplating purchasing an Encore to go with my Contenders.  But from reading all the post in this group there seems (real or unreal) a problem with the quality of the factory barrels.

Should I purchase a barrel from either Virgin Valley or Bullberry or Foxridge or am I just throwing money away?  

Love my contenders, will trade wife for barrels any takers?;-)

Nothing wrong with factory barrels. Go the custom route if you can't get what you want in a factory barrel.  KN

It is good to hear that others have good luck with factory barrels!  I have been using TC factory barrels for 30 years and have had nothing but excellent experiences with them.......

Now lets see, A stainless frame, 6mm Remington Stainless Fluted Barrel, Leupold Scope, Tigerwood Laminate Stock. I thinks I'll have a prarie poddle puncher. Hee Hee

Now how do I explain it to the wife?

Most folks are not really good enough shooters to be able to tell the difference between factory and custom. I've owned quite a few factory barrels and have only had a few with difficulties. The 223 Contender barrels have given some folks problems. I had one that was terrible, but had it rechambered to something slightly longer. Now it's incredibly accurate. There's been some negatives shared about the 25-06 Encore barrels. I had one that wouldn't shoot the heavier stuff, but wasn't bad on the lighter bullets.  Unless you really want something exotic, you can probably get what you want used from either the classifieds here or from Ed Kirkpatrick. If you're willing to pay for something more interesting I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Virgin Valley or Dave Van Horn. I have bought two new barrels from VVCG and had two rechambered by DVH. All were excellent. Bullberry seems to do good work, but the wait is significant. MBMCO has a growing positive reputation.

I agree with KN.  There is nothing wrong with factory barrels. The one I have shoots just fine. I shoot more customs, because I like some rounds that can't be had factory. onesonek

I apprieate all the feed back!! :grin:   I'm ending up with three Encores with factory/custom shop barrels.  Got a blue 15inch factory 7mm-08.  Also got a Blue 223, 24inch engraved receiver with a black ryanite stock and a Tasco 6-24 x 40 scope.  Finally a 6mmRemingto 24inch Stainless FoxRidge barrel with a engrave Stainless receiver and a Grey laminated stock with a Weaver V10 Scope in Silver finish.  Havent had time to mount the scopes yet or finish my reloading chores.  But I'll be one happy camper if they perform as well as my factory contender barrels do!! :-D  :-D  :-D

You will be very happy with the look of the engraved Encore receivers from Fox Ridge - I have one in blue and one in stainless - both with the gold inlay.  At the time I ordered the regular stainless engraved was not available so they gave me the one with the gold inlay at the same price.  I set the blued one up with a 26 inch blued 25-06 barrel with one of the EABCO slim line muzzle tamers installed and one of the thumbhole Fox Ridge stock and forearm sets, topped it off with ta 6-24 Tasco I had on hand set in a weaver mount with millet angle lock rings.  The stainless frame has the rubber grips and a 15 inch 243 Win barrel on it now, have a custom barrel on the way in 375 H&H to make a hand cannon.  Enjoy your pruchase, I know I am. :)

Never had a bad TC barrel. You ever notice how the guys complaing about TC barrels are the same ones who just paid twice as much for a barrel from Sisk or Mike Bellm? Bet their "custom" barrels won't outshoot the factory TC barrels. But, hey, they got a name to throw around.
