Like I need another rifle...but....
« on: December 23, 2007, 02:44:38 AM »
I just sold a whole buncha safe queens...y'know...stuff sitting and not shot...a luger, a ppk, a pp, one of three HPs, an unfired browning baby, a M77 in .338 that was given to me, a P38 comercial and a SWm745IPSC.  Most of these guns haven't been fired since the 80s.

I have some cash now and after I pay the remaining $1500 of a 3K taxidermy bill, I'll still have significant cash.

So...how bout a new rifle????  What to buy???  I have a calibers from 17HRM to 45/70.  I have magnums and non-magnums.  I have customs and stock rifles.

I was thinking of a rem 700, sps in .300wsm...then...rebored to 325wsm and have the barrel shortened.  I'd use it for...well...the same stuff I use the 06, 300win, 45/70 and 375HH for.  Gotta be a better idea....

What do you think???

What about a double rifle in something from 45/70 up to say maybe 500 Nitro. It's always good to dream of Africa.

What about a Sharps rifle in 45/110 or 45/120 for some Quigley type action.

How about something ridiculous like a 458 Weatherby magnum or 8mm magnum necked down to say .257 or 6mm. Get it done as a switch barrel as you probably won't get more than 1500 to 2000 rounds per barrel but a 100 grain bullet at over 4000 FPS could be interesting.

Now this is something that could be interesting at the range. If you have a 400 yard range to shoot at.....Hmmm....could be some fun here. Help me out, but I think you can load modern and black powder both in the reproduction rifles?

You thought shooting MOA at 100 yards was fun.....try it at 400 yards with a black powder load!!!!

Merry Christmas as well.

I have "kind of" the same problem. I'm thinking of getting a 300 Win Mag barrel for my Encore.....although for the whitetail that I hunt, it's really overkill....but I've never owned a Mag rifle of any caliber....I just thought it would be something different. And besides, I already have the frame.

I'm currently waiting for a 6.5x55 swede barrel from Shaw to barrel a Stevens Model 12 single shot action that I bot. I will need to bed the action once I have the barrel and headspace it. But I'm looking forward to putting this one together and getting it to the range.

Oh....such problems to have 'eh?
