what about painting a synthetic stock

My daughter's youth handi has a synthetic stock/foreend. Before I purchased it she saw a Crickett .22 rifle with a bright pink synthetic stock at Walmart and went wild over it. I searched the net over with hopes of finding a replacement stock and forend in something that was a little more----girly. I didn't see anything.

Has anyone ever painted these stocks/forends with good luck out of it?

that Krylon Fusion paint is good stuff. i color matched the plastic of my dashboard to the color of my jeep and even painted the body plastics to match the painted color,
 a few hunting trips and offroad excursions and its still like new. the front frame cover even took some mind hits and the paint didnt even get mared.
 i'll use it again.

Pink camo, I like it.  But if she drops in the middle of her barbies you may never find it!

Go for the fusion. I did my pardner pump with synthetics in a camo pattern.   Has worked perfect.  Has held up in all weather conditions so far.  That has been two years ago.

I painted a Stevens 200 stock with Krylon Fusion last winter. It looked good and everything was fine until the weather got hot and I put on sunscreen. The paint melted where my cheek touched the comb of the stock. After a LOT of sanding it is painted with regular Krylon and sunscreen hasn't bothered it.

Quick mentioned our resident expert at flamboyant colored stocks. Any questions Stimpy will be able to answer, the only thing he has not done so far has been chrome plated stocks, but then again I have no idea what he may be working on at this time, perhaps chrome plated stocks will be a reality some day....<><....  ;D

That Fusion paint seems to hold up pretty well to water, steam and cleaning agents.  We re-painted the bath room a couple years ago and the wall above the shower surround was done in that dingy cream colored fiberglass milkhouse liner.  Durable, but ugly, when its next to fresh white paint.  I got a couple cans of the Fusion in white and it all matches.  I've used all sorts of bathroom cleaners on it and it doesn't chalk or come off, AT ALL.

Come on guys , i'm not that bad am i,. so far i have done - safety orange , safety yellow , red , white , blue , green , summer camo and winter camo .

The idea of chrome has passed through my mind but i'm not sure how i would get it to stick . maybe just silver with a clear coat .  ;)

The key to painting ( Tupperwear ) is to de-grease it very well with rubbing alc. first then paint , and use light coats .

JonD:  I have painted several guns for girls to use on rifle teams.  And yes pink is by far their favorites.  I have found some girls like the camo patterns, others do not.  So suggest you run it by her for a final decision first.  Often times a floral pattern is chosen, with appliques this is easy.  If it gets her shooting, what's it hurt.

Apparently she is not old enough for hunting yet, so by the time she is ready to go out with Dad on a hunting trip she will decide to make it a bit more subdued.  If not don't worry about it, deer are color blind anyway.

Krylon Fusion is the way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have painted several stocks with it and is very durable. I have a 12 year old daughter and will be buying a couple Marlin 917'S 17HMR'S. I hope in the spring. She has an interest in shooting but will not ever kill anything. I took her out to the range 1 1/2 years ago and she shot my 223 Handi Rifle. I was real happy she hit the target the first time at 100 yards. It was an 8'' target. Our range time was cut short because she had to pee and would not go in the woods. Oh well. I asked her if she would shoot with me if I bought her, her own rifle and she said yes. I just have to paint it pink. Dale

Well, I took you guys advice on using Krylon Fusion to paint my daughters youth synthetic .223. She wanted a pink camo rather than solid pink. Here is a picture of how it turned out. Let me say that it didn't turn out quite like I thought it would, and this is definitely one of a kind, but she loves it and that's all that matters. I also posted a picture of a six shot group that she and I recently shot. She shot three, and I shot three at 75yds. Considering it started out shooting 4-6 inch "groups" -- not too bad.

In my opinion, you did a really fine job. Sort of kinda an Urban camo. I like it too, and I'm old, tired and decrepit. I see why your daughter likes it. Not to bad on the shooting too.

But, am I color blind? Where's the pink, I see white, tan and blue. Also, if there was pink on it I may not like it. My daughter would though. She had us get her a Pink Camo quiver for Christmas. She loved it. Not me..... But to each their own.

Looks Great! The most important thing is she likes it. Whatever it takes to get them shooting. My daughter is a good shot, but just can't bring herself to drop the hammer on a deer. Maybe someday.

The white is the pink, and the blue deer tracks is actually purple. Sorry about the photo quality,--I had a time learning how to resize and post pictures!!

A previous post stated that the suntan lotion ate into the Fusion but the regular Krylon was OK. I bet that mosquito repellent would do the same

Just a thought- how about giving the Fusion a clear coat of acrylic of regular Krylon

For some other exotic ideas, try out Alsa corps web site. Stimpy, they may have the answer to your possible chroming idea. I saw that they do offer samples...for a price.
