bergara barrels

i haven't seen too many posts on them lately, have people been having good accuracy with them or not?  are they worth the $70 savings over a tc barrel?

Crawford,
I purchased a 7mm08 SS for an encore frame.  Shoots great, seems to have a very smooth bore.  I know some do not like the fact they are made in Spain, but I was trying to save a nickel.  They don't have a lot of caliber offerings.

i'm pretty low on cash too, but if they don't shoot as good as the tc barrels i would spend the extra money.  what size groups do you get?

Crawford,
Didn't really group it, however, I shot 4 times to sight it in.  Every time I moved the scope adjustments, it shot right where I calculated it should.

I was going deer hunting, didn't have time to target shoot.  I really believe its a sub-minute barrel, with handloads.

I got my son a 45-70 for his encore for Christmas and I have one in a 300win mag. Haven't shot either yet. He picked out the blued version and It looks better and fits the frame better than the T/C. Ill post range results soon.

Every Bergara Encore barrel that has gone through my hands has given sub-MOA groups -- and 2 of those were only fed factory ammo. You certainly can't go wrong for the price...

I bought my son a 243 barrel to deer hunt with.  Bought cheap federal 100 gr power shock ammo.  Shoots 1 1/8 at 100 4 shot groups. I plan on loading some 65 gr for ground hogs this spring.  I am going to buy another.  The matte blue finish looks great.

My .308 shoots about 1inch but as soon as deer seasons out I am going to try some different ammo. Currently I am using Federal Fusions 165grains. I might get into reloading and work up some 150 grain loads.

Makes me wonder what would happen if you tried 45-47 grains(working up slowly)of Varget with a 165BT or 168MK or Berger seated for your barrel ? I would bet 1/2-3/4" or better.

Ill have to try it. It might be a little while though. I am also going to work up some loads for my 06.

it sounds like most people are having good results then?  with the factory tc barrels some people aren't satisfied with the accuracy so the bergara barrels must be pretty good.

They may be fine, but consider the sample size of your little survey here.  Four who have shot groups and one not.  My guess is that it wouldn't take much to get five positive comments on TC barrels as well.

My .243 Bergara rifle barrel should be here any day.
I have .243 15"  and .357 MAX 15" barrels from TC and they shoot like a dream, so no complaints with TC. I just wanted to save $40 if possible.

Having never owned a Bergera barrel I cant make a comment on them. I have over the many years had several TC barrels, only one that I couldn't get to shoot. TC made that right with me. At the present I have barrels from OTT, MGM, SSK, FRO and TC factory. It probably isn't fair to compare accuracy in different chamberings, but out of 15 barrels the TC 14" 22-250Rem., cut from a 26" factory heavy barrel is my most accurate barrel.

I have had  2 TC pistols and both were very accurate shooting under 1" @ 100 yds off of the bench.  I have also had 2 rifle barrels; one did not shoot worth a nickel and TC replaced it for me.  The replacement was a consistent 1 1/4" shooter off of the bench.  To me it was not accurate enough (plus I had an itch for another Sako) so it went down the road.  I know many would say 1 1/4" is good enough, but with reloading and shooting as much as I did, it drove me nuts not to be under an inch consistently.

I hope it does.  It is just to soon to declare them the way to go with relatively few folks using the product.
