S&W 627 (8rn) vs 629 (6rd)

What would be your preference as a defensive revolver against the two legged predators vs the 4 legged kind (cats & black bears), using these two guns.  The 627 is in .357mag. with 8 shots.  The 629 is in 44mag. is a sixshooter.  Keeping in mind, you can only pick one.

Is it just apples vs oranges with todays good bullets or do you think that their is a difference?

I will always go with the one that hits hardest.  I see no dis-advantage with having 6 shots.  I have never heard of any one loosing by shooting 6 bad guys and getting taken out by the seventh.

I would go with the 626 as more versatile.  You can load 44 specials way down and 44 shot shells are easier to reload.  On the high end you have much more power regardless of the bullet weight you choose.  I don't think the extra two shots are important.  If you are expecting a fire fight bring your AR-15.
