Questions about a model 637
« on: December 16, 2007, 08:44:19 AM »
I know the 637 is a good choice for ccw or home defense, but does anybody shoot theirs just for fun?  Plinking, target shooting, anything like that?  Is the recoil from the 637 really enough to make it no fun to shoot?

Yes, it has some recoil.  I wouldn't want to do an extended shooting session with it, but I run two or three cylinders through it every so often to keep in practice without any ill effect.

I wouldn't care much for an afternoon of shooting +P Defensive rounds; however, I've found that 148 grain wad-cutter match ammo is fun to shoot through the pocket pistols.  You do however need to watch for fatigue, it's more work (at least for me) to shoot them well and when I start getting tired I start to make shooting mistakes so when I catch myself doing other than "Perfect Practice" I quit and do something else.

For a good fun plinking load, try 5 grains of IMR TrailBoss powder over a 125 gr. round nose flat point lead bullet...it's soooo much fun to shoot out of an Airweight snubbie.  Nice, light , and not a lot of recoil.
