reloads for my 308 lite
« on: December 11, 2007, 07:20:43 AM »
got back into reloading last week, haven't done it since I was a kid, did tons of shotgun loads but dad always did the centerfire rifle stuff

got a lee breech lock anniversary kit, a set of collet neck sizing die and bullet seating die

using CCI BR primers and once fired brass I shot, Varget powder, 165g Sierra GameKing BTSPs, I made up 3 batches of 10rds and hit the range

44, 45 and just a hair under max (45.7)
2.80 OAL

the first rounds were an inch group, 44g
2nd was about 3/4", 45g
3rd was cloverleafing, sub 1/2" at 45.7g

no signs of excessive pressure

at 100 yards, next I need to get out to the outdoor range for 2 and 300 yard testing

very cool stuff!
got a few weeks before my next hunt and can't wait to go!

Sounds like whatever you are going to hunt for better stay out of range.

yep!
within a hundred yards the 44mag gets the job done, out past that the 308

went back today, 45.5g of Varget, 2.80 COL and I was getting one ragged hole
cool :)

I also loaded up some 150g Gameking BTSPs, similiar as with the 165s, the gun prefers the hotter rounds and seems to really prefer the 165
though 150g corelockt factory load was also making a ragged hole

I've tried others but 165 is my preferred weight for the 308, usually Sierra or Hornaday but whatever shoots the best will work.
